Typhoon landing gear

I was flying in a dogfight server last night with a friend in Typhoons. At some point after tangling with a couple of planes I noticed that I was having to add a fair amount a back pressure on the stick to hold level and trimmed it out, but I was confused about the cause.

Later when we were RTB my friend commented that my right gear was deployed. I cycled the gear, and a few minutes later I deployed them to land, where I noticed my right gear indicator light was red. I landed OK, but had a prop strike. I wasn't listing to the right, so the gear seemed to hold up.

Any ideas about the cause of this? Does a typhoon gear come unlocked under heavy G, or was that combat damage?

I don't think I've ever seen gear deploy as a result of high G in this sim so I'm going to guess that it was likely battle damage.

Alternatively, I've seen people accidentally cycle their landing gear, have the gear rip off at speed, and then not really find out until they landed that stuff was missing. If you have a track of the event you can probably go back and have a look.

I've never seen battle damage drop a gear in this sim, so my money would also be on your alternative answer. Its possible it was damaged on taxi/takeoff or oversped

Yeah I've never seen gear drop due to battle damage (i.e. a hydraulics failure) but I have seen gear shot off when hit from the underbelly. That is possible.

On the other hand, I have seen gear fail to retract properly if it's given a bang after takeoff - if you've inadvertently hit the deck while the gear is on the way up. Usually cycling it will fix it, but I've certainly seen it in an IL2 where you can't shift it. Maybe this?

Unfortunately, I didn't record the flight, so I guess its all down to conjecture unless some dev wants to pipe in on the damage modelling.

Talking to my wingman reveals additional info: when I cycled the gear it retracted, but when I extended them again the right gear did not fully extend. Hence the red indicator on the right gear. I guess it collapsed on landing. Pretty amazing how detailed the modeling is on these aircraft.

I know I'll be recording a lot more flights from now on!
