Hi folks,

This is really a Steam VR issue as a number of titles are affected, not just IL-2. The programme has started stuttering and not loading when launching in VR mode. Everything works just fine in screen mode and non-Steam VR titles such as MSFS2020 run perfectly fine. The problem is present in both the main and beta releases of Steam VR. I have rolled back to an old stable Nvidia driver, turned off all RAM and CPU acceleration but the problem remains.

My PC is high spec with an RTX3080, 64Gb of RAM, AMD Ryzen 9 and a Reverb G2. MSFS2020 runs flawlessly in VR.

Any ideas ?

I can second this. Ever figure it out?

IL2-VR is the only game I cannot stream. Even IL2 works and I have a Reverb G2 also ?

I have raised a ticket and supplied a full diagnostics report. Other titles are similarly affected, while non-Steam VR titles run very smoothly.

Hi all,

If anyone else is having issues, this is the guidance from Steam. I'll see if it works later......

To begin troubleshooting, please try resetting and re-installing SteamVR USB devices:

  1. From SteamVR, choose "developer" then select the "developer settings" tab.
  2. Then, choose "Remove all SteamVR USB devices." Unplug your headset from your PC, then restart your computer.
  3. Once rebooted, reconnect the headset to your PC. USB devices will begin to install. Please be patient, it may take several minutes.

Next, remove your VR USB cables and restart your computer. Once your computer has rebooted, reconnect your USB devices and let the drivers reinstall.

Then, use DDU to remove the GPU drivers from your computer, install a fresh copy, and test the headset again. You can download this software here:

http://www.wagnardsoft.com/display-driver-uninstaller-ddu

After this, please re-install the most recent driver available for your device and re-test the original issue.

You can visit the Nvidia website and Intel website for the latest versions.

We also suggest making sure that you have the latest BIOS and system firmware for your computer. Since this process varies, we suggest contacting your PC manufacturer for more details on the process.

If the problem persists, please provide an updated SteamVR report.

A Windows system report would also be helpful.

The update from me is that the step where "remove all steamVR USB devices" seems not to delete any drivers. After then physically disconnecting, rebooting and reconnecting the G2, no drivers were installed and the headset still worked.

Does anyone have any ideas what I should try next ?

Try installing the openXR and openXR developer tools to access its settings, than set it as the runtime in steamVR.  It's the only thing that cured mine.  Both still available in the microsoft store.

Thanks Captain Crunch, how do I do that ? I have Open XR but am not sure how to set it for Steam VR. It is active and running in FS2020 (non-steam).

Sorted !!!!!

I did a bit more research and disabled the WMR OpenXR Runtime via  .........SteamVR: SteamVR settings > Enable Advanced > Developer > Set SteamVR as OpenXR Runtime. I re-booted from cold and it made no difference. I re-enabled OpenXR, re-checking everything to the default values. I had not changed anything but it was worth a try. I rebooted and suddenly, everything appears to be fine.

I hope this helps someone with the same issue.

Yup, anything to get back in the air, took me two weeks and some very sore eyes, have no idea what exactly fixed it, but life is sweet again.  Throw enough settings and changes into the graphics behind the curtains and your bound to get something to work.

oh dear, I've just stupidly done this, any idea how i fix it ?

I've reset Current OpenXR Runtime back to Windows Mixed Reality in SteamVR but it still looks the same and awful ?
