Hi all,

I thought I'd create a thread on this because I was trying to find whether anyone had tried to combine the 'Woojer' haptic vest with IL2, and had no luck.

I went out and bought the vest for about £360 (as opposed to the £500 standard price, offers are common I believe) and after a couple hours of play,  I've reached the conclusion that the vest is not a good fit for IL2:

  • Getting hit is always a scary experieence in IL2, but feeling an outright WHACK when you do is the vest's strong point
  • It does feel quite fun to have a constant thrum around you while flying, but unfortunately that's limited to your torso only so it takes you out of the experience
  • Because it's tuned to bass response rather than having any actual programming, it feels off respective to engine power levels. For example, in some aircraft it will thrum more at low speed/idle when really you want that intense sensation to accompany high throttle moments.
  • There seems to be a bit of lag, the feeling started a split second after firing the quartet of 20mm cannon in my FW-190A3 earlier. It's a minor delay, but noticable.
  • I think it was designed with standing VR games in mind - it can make sitting feel a bit akward
  • The biggest off put - it likes to be the core of your sound system, and I don't think it'll be compatable with any surround sound

I'll likely be sending it back (30 day return policy), but I'm going to give it a few more sessions. On a similar topic, has anyone tried pairing a Buttkicker? ?

Before you totally give up you may want to trial the Woojer with Andre's Simshaker software.  It's driven by game data not sound.  The software works and Andre provides great support.  If the Woojer wants to be the centre of attention you may also need a cheap separate USB soundcard and maybe Voicemeeter.   Quite frankly my recommendation would be to return the Woojer and order a JetPad from Andre.  It's listed at GPB 186 (so money back for you).  There is nothing that enhances VR more than a Simshaker/Jetpad combo.  I can feel a stall coming a mile off so can fly right at the edge, getting hit by flak makes me jump!  So no matter what, get the Simshaker software (check the sub-forum right next door to this one under Hardware).  Once your hooked, well then add a Buttkicker, and then bass drivers for your throttle, stick and rudders.  It's a rabbit hole.  If you still want to wear a vest then you can also add a Kor-FX.  They sell for $99USD.  But the seat makes it kind of redundant.

As Paul mentioned above, Simshaker Wings is great. It relies on telemetry from IL2 instead of the audio so it's way more informative, plus you can customize what you want to feel and with what sort of waveform shape/frequency so it's not just the same sort of vibrations - flaps, gear and buffeting are all quite distinct.

I've recently set it up with using two Dayton bass shakers which I found on discount some years ago but never got around to using - IIRC those are much cheaper than Buttkickers and you can pretty much mount them anywhere.

Great set of reccomendations - I think I'll go down the Simshaker and Jetpad route. Seems much more suited to my requirements. Thankyou :)

Does the vest has a well documented SDK ? If yes maybe I could add support in the app I have done for bHaptics vests

https://github.com/cercata/pysim2bhap

I'm loving it with bHaptcis, but it's twice the price of a vibration seat ... only worth if you wanna use it for shooters or other VR games.
