II./JG27_Rich Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 (edited) The swearing! I'm guessing many people have parents or a grand parent that served in WWII. Did you ever hear them say all the potty mouth words you and I use on a regular basis? My dad would never ever utter anything like it. I heard him say the F word once when he worned me my sister was after me. Edited July 13, 2014 by II./JG27_Rich
Finkeren Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 It's kind of a tradeoff, screenwriters today are faced with something of a catch 22, when they write historical stuff like this. Of course people back then swore a great deal back then. It's just that the words they used would sound strange to us now. 1
J2_Trupobaw Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 My kid does not hear me swearing, either. Only thing it proves is that I don't swear in presence of my kid. From my observation the habit stays even after kids start swearing themselves.
FuriousMeow Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I don't think you can compare civilian life to in-theater military life. You can't even compare civilian life to non in-theater military life. It will also vary person to person. It's not an absolute source of concrete information, but this thread is interesting and covers this topic. http://absolutewrite.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-44278.html
