On two different headsets (Rift CV1 and Reverb G2) I have found the colours in IL-2 to be extremely washed out. This makes identifying aircraft very difficult and in multiplayer leads to one of two issues:

1) Inability to identify aircraft at a reasonable distance means that I can almost never engage an aircraft that isn't aware I'm there, as by the time I've made the required 25 fly-bys of them to ID they're firmly aware of me.

2) A lot of friendlies get shot down if a policy of "shoot at anything I see because I'm sick of the disadvantage" is adopted.

This could be resolved by one of two methods:

1) Include saturation and contrast settings along with the brightness one in the graphics options.

2) Remove the check that prevents the use of ReShade in multiplayer so that VR players can fix it themselves, like every other game in existence.

@BatSpoggy , Your option with the inclusion of modification is definitely not a solution to the problem, but a pandora's box.

It doesn't seem to have been a pandora's box in any other sim, all of which either allow reshade or have in-game options that allow a fix for this issue.

I really only included the "allow reshade" idea because I'm less than optimistic that any actual work will be done to improve the VR experience, so an option that requires very little work is more likely to actually happen.

Server's owner can allow rehade or 3dmigoto if they enable "shader injector" option. But none of them is doing it.

Why ?

You already answered in you first post: it should allow you to spot better than people not using reshade or other mod. How do you call the usage of an external tool to have an advantage versus other player not having it ? "cheating"

This injector limitation option was not existing at the begining of the game, it has been added after a lot of complain in forums.

And you can been bannex if you are using reshade for some fps games which have a "normal" anti cheat policy...

I don't think you read my description of the original problem, which is surprising given that it is the thread title.

Sorry, my response read a bit more snippy than I intended.

VR problems seem to be ignored for the most part. There's no intention to produce an advantage, it's attempting to remove the disadvantage that already exists in VR because the colour balance makes identifying aircraft a lot more difficult than it is on a monitor. A contrast/colour vibrance slider in the game would be the best option because it wouldn't allow anything outside of its specific scope, but I can't see that happening because no work to improve the VR experience seems to be done at any point. Without an in-game option, at least allowing an out-of-game solution that already exists and is allowed in other sims would help address the problem in the short term.
