I'm pretty new to sturmovik and I have the boddenplatte version.  So far I have only flown missions from the quick mission menu, and I always see an icon with two crossed swords hanging in the sky.  I've searched the forum to try to find out what it indicates but haven't turned anything up.  Can someone enlighten me?  Also can it be turned on or off without turning off the labels on the planes and ground targets?

target destination?

I wonder.  I know when I fly to it, it disappears and then reappears elsewhere so maybe that's it.

The only thing is, it is there when I go up to shoot down bombers or dogfight, so I expect the enemy aircraft to be the destination.  Usually the planes and the icon are miles apart on the map.

Thanks for the tip tho, I'm going to play around with it some more.  Would be nice if I could turn it off or  on.

You are being challenged to a duel old boy!

I think I see what you mean.  That icon only shows up on the Duel scenario and is usually in the general direction of where the next fighter is coming from.   My only quibble with it is sometimes when I'm trying to reacquire a bandit and I'm following the arrow pointer, the icon also has an arrow pointer and it throws me off.  I'm getting better with tracking now so it's not as much an issue as before but I don't see a use for it.  I was curious tho.

I see a different icon for free flights which I assume to be waypoints, and none for skirmishes, which makes sense.
