That is fascinating.  Given the utter horror of their existence as POW slaves, I believe I'd rather be shot on the run or get killed attempting to fly a strange aircraft out as well.

 

The description of attempted takeoffs sure do sound familiar to my early efforts in this sim of ground handling and takeoffs of twin engine A/C without counter rotating engines and/or no locking tail wheels.
