IckyATLAS Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 We are now in the 4K Era. 4K screen resolution, 4K Textures with IL2 etc.. There are 8K monitors now appearing on the market from Dell, ViewSonic etc. It's a pro market yet with very high prices, but say in two three years prices will come down and eventually we will end up with similar prices to 4K. Frequency the same, first at 60 and maybe later at 144. If you can have and 8K 43" monitor at the same price as a good similar 4K one so why not? All this said playing the game in 8K means that there is space for much more details in textures and globally more pixels to draw a more detailed environment. For our plane, ship, vehicle skins this means more detail when looking from nearer, same for all objects. Adding detail is costly and even today for many objects one can do much better than with existing coarse texture resolution (example the buildings). With increased performance of GPUs with every new card generation, and 8K monitors will we one day in a not to distance future start to have 8K textures which are 4 times the ones we have now? Does it make sense? Is it a too big additional work that makes it economically unfeasible. Many questions to ponder about. 1

Just upscale the 4k template and redraw it with more detail. Which one are you doing first?

Made a small test with an 8K skin. The IL2 Skin viewer when trying to use the 8K skin will generate an error of a too large resource and basically crashes. So no it does not work. The skin should still show up after you click past the warning though. At least it used to. I don't know if there have been any changes to the game since then that broke it. There were others experimenting with this a few years ago as well.

It is correct that in the Skin Viewer you get twice warnings/errors but past that it will display your 8K Skin. But in game it will not work and you get a completely jumbled fuzzy skin. It will not crash the game though. Anyway it won't work. I suppose the Skin Textures sizes are probably hard coded. You needed to tick a 4K skins option in the parameters. So probably the devs have to implement such a feature to make it usable..
