VA_Kamicosmos Posted January 15, 2022 Posted January 15, 2022 I have decided on the next campaign to stream in VR: Wind of Fury 'starring' the Hawker Tempest MkV! I was going to do HellHawks over the Bulge, cause Bulge. But after spending a few hours in the P-47D-28, the two of us just don't get along! I realized I have never flown the Tempest in this game. So, I took it up in a quick VR mission, and IN LOVE! Excellent visibility, the cockpit is large and spacious, and the instrument panel is a study in simple efficiency! It's flight characteristics are also top notch: Super fast, super stable, goes where I look, very confident feeling. Engine management is also easy: Pretty much leave the prop at max, supercharger on stage 1 unless over 10K feet, and the radiator open when needed. Even the mixture is easy, just Start Up, Normal and Cut Off. Actually easier than a Piper Cherokee! About the only downside is it has a fairly low ammo capacity at only 600 rounds. BUT, those 600 rnds are 20mm high explosives. So it only takes literally 2-3 rounds and things go BOOM! The campaign follows a New Zealander squadron in Late 1944, doing an assortment of ground attack, recon, and air combat missions. It says there's even a couple missions over the Bulge, so I'll still get a bit of that. And, this squadron was one of the few that were up and flying on New Year's Day, 1945. This is important cause that was when Hitler ordered the Luftwaffe to go hit as many allied bases as they could. So this squadron and their Tempests did some VanDammage when they caught all those bf109s, FW190s and ME262s on the way back from that. I have a NZ paint job for it, complete with invasion stripes! Also, I plan on flying this campaign with engine management 'off' so I have to do it, and also with no Hud or Markers, just using the actual instruments and gauges, and the Big Map for 'real' navigation. And finally, I think it will be a nice change of pace to fly a 'late' war Western Front campaign after doing 3 Early war Eastern front campaigns: Blazing Steppe, Ten Days of Autumn, and Fortress on the Volga. Anyway, mission one: Tomorrow Sunday 0830 Central US or catch it later on youtube. (I'll post a link to the video here tomorrow, like I did with my Ten Days play)
VA_Kamicosmos Posted January 16, 2022 Author Posted January 16, 2022 (edited) First mission of #windoffury on the books! Got a couple kills, bent up my landing gear on my first landing in a Tempest! Oops. Also, too early in the morning, and I forgot to plug in my Blue Yeti Microphone! So, there's no 'narration' on this video, just the in game sounds. Who knows, maybe you all don't care to hear me yammer while my cockatiel translates in the ground, eh? (Bit of a shame though cause my kindergartener wandered in near the end and offered some excellent Kiddo Commentary on my flying skills.) https://youtu.be/T24No-h3WRI Edited January 16, 2022 by Kamicosmos
