vangel Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Can't test it now I'm at work, but their new drivers implement a very interesant new down-/upscaling technique. https://www.techspot.com/news/92952-latest-nvidia-drivers-reveal-ai-powered-downscaling-feature.html It basically upsample your resolution like DLSS but then scale it back into your basic resolution, archiving a much better anti aliasing and works with almost every game because it's at driver level.
enyak Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Maybe there is a way for developers to access the API and build it into the game. But I think currently the DSR-setting is not accessible within VR via the standard desktop settings, so I doubt the DLDSR-setting will be available either.

Now that the technique is on the table, perhaps the "openvr_fsr" will be able to use and infuse it into IL-2.
Mtnbiker1998 Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 Fwiw, this is actually more like the opposite of DLSS. instead of using a lower res and upscaling, this uses a higher res and downsamples. Looks better, but at a cost of decreased performance. for VR as it is I'm not interested in anything that gives me worse performance, even if it does look better. 1 1
AcidBath Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 This new feature is not DLSS. It is DSR implemented with a new algorithm adapted from DLSS, which Nvidia notes is 2x faster but produces the SAME results as traditional DSR. Nothing here of use for VR AFAIK.
dawud Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 (edited) Of course VR would benefit from DeepLearning-Up/Down-scalers. Let them learn a bit more, let the Dev´s make em handle prerendering and frameprediciton and we will benefit for shure. New DL-Codes are more than simple Algorythms .. the went from that, to Machine Learning and to Deep Learning those Codes can easily either improve Picture-Quality or Frames. But first i want the Chipmarket to chill a bit. I´ll just wait some driver-iteration, VR will get bigger and so will the intrest in it. Edited January 17, 2022 by dawud
