Missionbug Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 (edited) Blitzen requested this some time ago and I thought I might have a go. I normally use Photoshop but could not figure out exactly how to try and make the shinny metal effect, thanks to a tutorial by 6./ZG26_5tuka I gave it a try in Gimp. Medifire link contains three versions: https://www.mediafire.com/file/gxzy0ukiqlma5er/WIP+Hurricane+metal+test+12th+January+2022.7z/file It is not entirely clear from photographs just how much polished metal there is on the aircraft so I might have added too much, anyway it is a first attempt at metal for me so consider it a learning project. Any thoughts guys please on what you see, will it do? Is it convincing enough? Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete. Edited January 14, 2022 by Missionbug 2 1
Beebop Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 Not a real expert here but to my eye the blue is a little over-saturated IMO. I'll use a bright blue as a tint for metal but at no more than 3% opacity, often just 1 or 2%, just enough to make it appear I'm reflecting the sky. Also the tint should only be on the metal portions of the plane and not on the wood and canvas bits. However the metal sections do look reflective enough. A few tweaks here and there and I'll be looking to download it. 1
Missionbug Posted January 12, 2022 Author Posted January 12, 2022 Thank you very much for the comments Beebop, really appreciated, I will take another look at what opacity I used for the Blue and adjust. I tried the whole in just Grey at first without the Blue but somehow it just did not seem to have the steely quality either on the polished area or what is wood and fabric of the metallic paint so I did what I usually do for the old game and added it all over. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete.
Missionbug Posted January 12, 2022 Author Posted January 12, 2022 (edited) Hello again guys, made a few alterations and zipped up three versions, please test and report back. Link moved to first post. The first skin you have already seen, MetalTest2 has the Blue tint at 2% over the whole air frame: MetalTest3 has the Blue tint only on the polished metal areas: Please let me know which you prefer, keep or discard as you see fit. Notes: The code was done in Euro Style, nearest I could find that looked like the photograph. The undercarriage doors do not look like they were polished so I left them although the underside of the wings was done. The Yellow and Red leading edge markings were omitted as they do not seem to be present on the photograph. Hope one of these fits the original request that I think was from Blitzen. If anyone has any better information please post here and I will make any corrections necessary. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete. Edited January 14, 2022 by Missionbug
Missionbug Posted January 14, 2022 Author Posted January 14, 2022 Blitzen has now got the skin so as there have been no further comments I will leave the three skins that are already done and consider it complete. I have moved the previous link to the first post, please use the version you prefer. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete.
Blitzen Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Will give a try to the new versions! Thanks again for your work! Will love larking about in my silver kite!
