T_Rod Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Hi, I would like to know which type of control prop pitch do you use more often? For my part, I'm used to CloD where the "Emil" has manual prop pitch, so i find it familiar to me the use of it. But I'm not sure which is more convenient or "best" when it comes to combat. Thanks in advance. Regards
1CGS LukeFF Posted July 12, 2014 1CGS Posted July 12, 2014 It's best to just leave it in automatic mode. 1
DB605 Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Yep, just leave it to automatic like real pilots did. Manual mode gives you almost zero advantage in combat, just extra work to do. 2
Micke090 Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Yep, just leave it to automatic like real pilots did. Manual mode gives you almost zero advantage in combat, just extra work to do. Is radiator, fuel and prop management on auto as default?
Hunin Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 (edited) They are indeed. Radiators and mixture don't have a manual mode ingame and the "supercharger" is automated to begin with. Edited July 12, 2014 by Hunin
ACG_Kraut Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Manual for Takeoff, Landing, and emergencies. Auto for any other situation. 1
Pringliano Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I use manual for takeoff and initial climb, and also for landig. Under threat I can also sometimes set it to manual. 1
Praetor Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I like using manual when in a climb, or in a situation that bleeds speed. Keeps your energy output at its max. 1
-TBC-AeroAce Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I use auto, I have not really come across a situation even landing where I would need it. The only time I may consider its would be if my engine was out and I had a long way to glide, hence I would feather the prop to have less drag or maybe even the oposite if I was to high, the later tbh I would just use sideslip as the prop efect would not be that big 1 1
T_Rod Posted July 12, 2014 Author Posted July 12, 2014 Thanks a lot for the replies! Less work to do then , in CloD the E4 has auto prop pitch too but i find it less reliable than the manual control. Seems that in the F and G is better than in the Emil. The russian planes has CSP like the Spitfire?
PauloHirth Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 BOTH, is good for all, the other options will let a side out... 1
Tektolnes Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 They are indeed. Radiators and mixture don't have a manual mode ingame and the "supercharger" is automated to begin with. In real life did the F4 or G2 have an option for the pilot to manually control the radiators?
Finkeren Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 In real life did the F4 or G2 have an option for the pilot to manually control the radiators? Yes, and as far as we know, the manual override will be modelled in BoS at some point.
SR-F_Winger Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I certainly would love to activate manual pitch in certain situations. Sadly it doesnt seem to work correctly. Switching to manual pitch doesnt do anything for me when flying my f4

Reflected Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Historically, weren't RL pilots supposed to use automatic even for landing and takeoff? That's what I remember from the pilots' notes. I think the only real use of setting it manually is to save fuel while cruising. 1
Matt Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 The pilot was basically supposed to switch to automatic before taking off and only switch to manual if the automatic system failed to work. I currently use manual for landing (12:00 setting, works best for me) and warming up the engine on the ground if necessary (i set to 8:30, then give full throttle and adjust the pitch to get maximum RPM without the plane starting to move).
71st_AH_Cujo Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) I use manual in emergencies, cruise 1.0ATA and 2100rpm and sometimes when I have someone trying to climb hard after me, I set it to 1.3 @ 2550. Edited July 16, 2014 by 71st_AH_Cujo
EG14_Varana Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 It depends on the aircraft, like in real planes some of them has a fixed prop and some of them has a moveable prop with different systems: the first system is totally manualy, you have a lever to set the prop angle and at the second one you can set a constant rpm (constant speed propeller) where you can set a rpm and the engine controlls the prop angle by itself to hold the rpm. would like to see this systems like they are available in real life in this planes

II./JG27_Rich Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 When in Cliffs of Dover I think one only goes into auto when in a dogfight
AvengerSeawolf Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 The BF 109's from the F version onwards they had Auto prop pitch.
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 The BF 109's from the F version onwards they had Auto prop pitch. The late Emil's (E-4 onwards) had the Kommandogerät as well. When in Cliffs of Dover I think one only goes into auto when in a dogfight Yeah. It's all preference, really... But the Kommandogerät in the Emil's were nowhere near as "dialed in" as they were in the later models.
HotPursuit Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I like the option to have both auto and manual modes. I often use manual prop pitch for take-off so I can set higher rpm's.
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 I like the option to have both auto and manual modes. I often use manual prop pitch for take-off so I can set higher rpm's. Nearly all aircraft that were equipped with the Kommandogerät had an override mechanism.
