Jeroen83 Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 Hi, recently i watched someone play a game called “snowrunner” on nintendo switch. It’s a fun game where you need to drive trucks with cargo across difficult terrain. It struck me there’s a very subtle but lifelike distortion of the glass windscreens from inside the truck looking out. I haven’t seen this effect in any other game or sim, although I don’t play DCS or MSFS2020. I’m wondering if it would be cool to have this effect in IL2 aswell. After all, the plexiglass canopies of ww2 aircraft are prone to this effect for sure: especially the new P51b malcolm hood would be more lifelike. I’m not a programmer but if it can be done on the nintendo switch it shouldn’t be that costly processing-wise. Also, a distortion shaders also seems to be already in the game, because the rain spots when flying through clouds use a similar effect. I think it would be a great addition to the already nice looking and recently added reflections. I hope the developers can find the time to build a “test case” for themselves! Thanks. 1
DD_Arthur Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 (edited) It’s an interesting idea. Do we already have a very subtle effect like this in the game? Especially with some of the newer planes? I know a lot of this can be down to ‘reflections’ but; P51B? Also, could modern recordings made with GoPro type cameras with a semi-fish eye lens also contribute to this effect? Edit; that cockpit view from the 190 doing low passes is tremendous! Really makes you appreciate how good VR is in this game ? Edited January 9, 2022 by DD_Arthur 1
