-Who's flying

-where are they flying

-the community still active?

I'm not sure who you're old flying pals were, but the community is plenty active with several multiplayer servers with many people at any given time.

Just take a look around the forums, you’ll find the community buzzing with activity. I can’t speak for who’s flying, as I don’t quite understand the question, but there are several populated multiplayer servers.

Many of us hail from those early days of IL-2 back in 2001 or 2002. There's plenty of new faces too.

 

There are several popular servers depending on time of day. Combat Box, Finnish Virtual Pilots, Wings of Liberty, Berloga (duel and dogfight), and so forth. The community is very active! We also have started to host a once a year Sturmovikfest to celebrate the series.

Well, if you've been away for about 12 years, it must have been the old IL2 1946 that you've played then.

This is a new series, based on the principles of that great game but it's much more advanced.

If you like the previous IL2 installments, you'll like this one too.

Off course, we don't have 100's of planes and all their variants like in the days of old but the standard is much higher now (graphics and realism).

 

I was there too back in the day, played mostly on Skies Of Valor if you remember.

Always great to see new players joining or old ones returning.

I miss the old Skies servers - Fire and Valor. All Aircraft Arcade was fun too. Spits vs 109’s as well as Zekes vs Wildcats are not lacking for nostalgia either.

You have 250-450 players online at peak times depending on day in weak, 8-10pm gmt, no hyperlobby, popular servers are almost all without icons

Being bounced by Hartman and his FW190 and me telling him to "FyourW (190) .

Great guys there, some I remember, Ilinini, T4trouble, Rubberchicken, Miguel, Foxbat (passed away unfortunately)... .

The old pilots are still out there. Many names here I recognize from the old UBI forums.

 

Do it! Get some VR goggles, nice PC, and enjoy man! It's insane how much the immersion has improved from the original IL2. I still can't believe it every time I hop into the cockpit in VR. It doesn't get old. People like us have been dreaming of this our entire lives and now it's here and it's amazing.

 

I wasn't good but loved flying Spits vs 109s and Zeke vs Wildcat. Full real servers that had missions for bombers and attack planes too which I love to fly.

I wish they had the pacific content going. Would love the Zeke's vs US planes etc.
