Mid-war Normandy map

Hi all,

I believe this has already been suggested in other threads but I thought I'd make a dedicated thread for it. The map for the upcoming BoN expansion will feature two variations of the same map set at the time of the invasion, one having Allied airfields in Normandy, and various mission/campaign builders have stated they'll also use these maps to recreate cross channel ops in the early and mid war periods.
However the maps wouldn't be historically accurate for such use, for example Manston was a grass field until early '44 when it was paved, there would have been less coastal fortifications and no V-1 launch sites etc. etc. etc.

So I guess my request of the devs is this: if during their research for the Normandy 1944 map(s) they happen to have also collected enough info for how the same area would look at anytime between 1941 to 1943 it would be cool if we could have a map for that so mission makers can create more accurate scenarios from that period e.g. the Dieppe raid.

The V-1 launch ramps are placeable blocks in the Mission Editor, so it's safe to assume that if you want to do a '43 map you can just delete the block and boom, it'll be an empty field

As outlined in my Surface Editing Manual, it's perfectly possible to do all of that ourselves

I think the biggest question will be if we're going to get all four seasons like we did with Rhineland.  I'm sure we'll get spring and summer, but hopefully we'll see a fall and winter as well.

No way for mission makers to create any realistic scenario without US aircraft from '42 and '43.

 

For Normandy we got German fighters from '42 and '43 mid war era (exception AR-234 that will be banned online), but for Allied side all American and British fighters with last year of war options/boosts and settings. Luftwaffe got fighters for '42 and '43...but we got no contemporary US P-38F/G/H or no early P-47C or early D.

 

I'd love to see mid-war scenario like this but we can't do anything with the map if we don't have the aircraft.

Outside of the P-38, we have a 1943 Spitfire VB, a 1941-42 Hurricane, a B-25 and A-20 that were flying well before 1944, a P-51 and P-47 that are both pre-1944 planes. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's not everything needed for pre-1944 scenarios, but a lot is already there.

To my knowledge the A20B was never used on the western front and the RAF Boston's were different aircraft.

Also important to consider the A20B can only carry soviet bombs and it's unlikely this will ever change.

 

B25 and upcoming B26 are both ai exclusive so we have essentially 0 flyable level bombers, but that's also an problem for Normandy/Bodenplatte.

Thats why the next DLC needs to be a 42-43 Mediterranean battle! Gives us our mid war Brit/US planes to complement the Normandy map, among a bunch of other fun goodies!

Yes indeed, there is a lot there - and some good scenarios are already possible when we get the Normandy map.

 

I’m just really hoping for the rest of those airplanes, there is a ton of opportunities for more great planes from all sides here.

Maybe as a possible future expansion they can choose a theater where some of those planes were present so we can use 'em in Normandy too (P51 A or Spitfire Vc in the Mediterranean for instance)?

Yes sir, possibly.

 

Even if they don’t they could sell a ton of planes as collectors for this region. I would buy every single one of them.

And thats why next DLC is east front, and then you also make few west front collector airplanes to calm down east front haters, make missing ones for Normandy map like earlyer versions of P-38 or Spits9c and so on...

 

When ypou have map, you can make collector airplanes that fit the map, if you make onother west front 43 dlc or med 43, you cant do same then and add missing east front 44 airlanes (Yak-3, La-7...), as you dont have map for them.
