jberlien Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Hello, I saw this error get a lot of attention back in 2017... Well it's 2022 and I'm having it! GTX-780 graphics card, Windows 10, GeForce 368.81 driver. Odd that the game is still having this problem. Anyone know the fix? Thanks, Jack
ShwarzerTeufel Posted January 15, 2022 Posted January 15, 2022 I have the same trouble, after the game map appears and I push the start button then the game show me a error message whit this tittle "D3D ERROR" and the game don´t load the texture and the game crush.
Cognac Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 (edited) I'm getting the same error with my RTX 2060. Just bought the game and feel like I wasted my money. Edit: Problem solved. It was my anti-virus. Added an exception for the game and now it runs smooth as silk. See you in the skies! Edited January 30, 2022 by Algernop_Krieger
RedKestrel Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 Anyone having this problem and experiencing crashes should submit a crash report to this thread: First post tells you how to make a crash dump and submit it. Often enough QC people go through the thread and examine the crash dumps. You can also reach out directly to Il-2 Support through the website here, they can help you troubleshoot. Support / IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles (il2sturmovik.com). Also make sure you post your graphics settings, in game and in the Nvidia driver. OP, that graphics card is pretty old, so if you are trying to run at anything other than low graphic settings you might be overstressing your card. D3D errors are almost always a graphics card issue. Check your drivers and update them if possible, if possible make sure your card is not overheating, seated properly, etc. You could try re-installing the game if checking your drivers and card doesn't solve the issue. Sometimes the D3D error indicates a failing graphics card. On more than one occasion I've seen a thread that started with this error end with the user reporting that their card had died, or that it had been overheating. Hopefully that is not the case.
jberlien Posted January 21, 2022 Author Posted January 21, 2022 (edited) Hi RedKestrel, I'm always skeptical of a response that immediately points to the hardware rather than the game itself. I run 3D CAD modeling software without a single glitch. The latest version (and previous versions) of Microsoft Flight Simulator, a very similar if not identically graphics-intensive program, runs flawlessly at the highest graphics settings. Folks, it's THIS GAME. It's doing something either DirectX or the graphics driver DOES NOT LIKE. Please fix it. Thanks! Edited January 21, 2022 by jberlien typo

Folks, it's THIS GAME. It's doing something either DirectX or the graphics driver DOES NOT LIKE. Please fix it. Thanks! I don't know what to tell you. I'm not a dev or anything, I'm just a player trying to help with what I've seen before. I'm suggesting things you can try to check that might be a relatively easy fix, instead of potentially waiting indefinitely for an in-game fix. I've been in multiple threads where this error preceded a card failure or occurred when the card overheated. It's worth checking. Either as you say the game is doing something the GPU doesn't like, in which case you have to submit a crash dump so the devs can figure out what that is, or it is a hardware/driver issue and the devs cannot help you. Honestly this game seems much more finicky on hardware than more mainstream titles so just because other games work well on the rig, does not always mean Il-2 will. D3D is a graphics card issue - either with the hardware, or with how the software is working with the hardware. It makes sense to me to investigate the parts of the problem that I have control over first, if only to rule them out. Without knowing your game settings or other hardware or what you've already tried, all I can do is suggest things to try at random. -make sure the game isn't trying to run on integrated graphics instead of the dedicated GPU - this happens sometimes with laptops or with Mobos with integrated graphics -If the game won't launch at all, try reinstalling the game. This is more of a pain than checking/changing drivers so I might try that first -If the game launches, go into the graphics settings and get everything as low as possible, and then try the game and see what happens. Does the error occur? If not, raise the graphics settings higher and try again. Try and have a GPU monitoring software running while doing this so you can see what your GPU is doing while the game is running - maybe something wacky is going on. -If, even at the lowest settings, the game still does not function, I would try a different driver for the GPU and see if that helps.
WarSlothdsbeckett Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 I found an easy fix for this specific error in the attachment. Somehow my laptop reverted to using the intel video card instead of NVIDIA. Simply go to the NVIDIA control panel and set this video card as the default card and that should resolve the issue. This fix is apparently more common for those using a laptop.

This game just doesn‘t work specifically on the 780. I have that card as well and the error mentioned always happens seconds to minutes into the game.
