[80 years ago today] "• The Supermarine Seafire has its maiden flight. Testing of the first navalized Spitfires Mark-Vb will determine that the fuselage is too delicate for carrier operations and the first of 118 strengthened Seafires Mark-Ib will enter service this summer aboard HMS Furious.

Like other models of the Spitfire it's a beautiful, good looking aircraft.  In the old IL-2:1946 I was always found the Seafire difficult to handle, especially attempting to land on a carrier.  I also thought its performance was inferior to Japanese fighters in the game including the Zero.

- More than 2,600 of all Marks will be produced with the final Mk-47 version entering service in 1948.
