I know this has been discussed before, but I've not read a response that actually answered the question.... So here I go.

Why does career mode require an internet connection.

I have no Internet connection, so I use a cellphone hot-spot with horrible 3g coverage to get the game started. Once I'm in (and that can take a while lol) then I turn the hot-spot off and can play career mode quite happily. All my mission stats etc are saved locally, it would appear the missions are generated locally... So what am I missing?

I've read so many posts saying server side this that and the other, but my experience seems to be the opposite. Hope I haven't thrown the cat amongst the pigeons too much here, but I can't see a logical reason, so was curious what the answer is.

I'd say that the need to be connected to their servers is to authenticate what parts of the game you actually own. Since technically you already have everything on your PC, you just don't have access to anything you haven't purchased yet. But that is just my guess.

Your licenses are downloaded.  You can start the game offline and the game knows what you own. Nine times in ten I start the game offline.

You have to login when you buy something.  The game also forces you to log in after an update to sync your licenses with any new content.  You need to be logged in for multiplayer.

I had always thought that the need to log in for career mode was data sync.  However, if the career functions just fine without a connection after the initial start then I'm not sure why it would not be able to persist offline and sync when the player got back online.
