BF109 fuel gauge question

I've always wondered why the fuel gauge in the 109 has 100 liter  increments but the increments between 300-400 and 200-300 are different.

Internal tank is sloped, not a uniform cube, so less volume in the upper half as you burn fuel the ratio changes.  Why design a specialized gauge to compensate and complicate things when you can simply move the hash marks and get the same result.
