[KG]Destaex Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 (edited) I did a search and could not find a topic that listed movies or TV that inspired or showcased Tanks for the Tank Crew community here. I could have sworn we had one for this little community here? What films or TV have you seen tanks in that or worth a watch? - Iron Fury - T-34 (Russian version called T-34) Tank film - Fury - Brad Pitt Sherman movie - Kelly's Heroes - Lots of Shermans - Indestructible - KV1 crew movie Tali-Ihantala 1944 - Has STuG tanks in it I heard this movie had Tiger II tanks in it and included all ww2 vets as actors? Could not find a trailer for Theirs is The Glory though. Edited January 4, 2022 by [KG]Destaex 1
BP_Lizard Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 (edited) White Tiger, free on Youtube. Also, Tanks for Stalin. On Amazon Prime Movies and free on Tubi TV. Not really a tank combat film. Rather, it focuses on the development and delivery of the T-34. Edited January 4, 2022 by BP_Lizard 2
No_Face Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 Girls und Panzer, and no, I'm not kidding. This is an anime (I think many of you know it) which talks about a high school for girls in Japan whose military art is tank fighting, Shensha-Do. On the other hand, here, no "violence", although the tanks shoot at each other there are never any deaths or even injuries. It's not a realistic anime, on the other hand, the tank models and the technical data about them seem to be historical. I always want to restart TC after watching an episode or movie. 2 3 2

Peasant Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 (edited) I second this recommendation. I've heard only good things about this movie. Haven't gotten around to watching it myself though. Edited January 4, 2022 by Peasant
SCG_judgedeath3 Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 Wheels of terror has some good tank vs tank action, about a penal company who get to use captured soviet tanks:

Apparently all the Russians would have needed to kill this White Tiger...was some "invisible trees" box it in...repairing tracks, steering and engine damage....and kill it! :)

[KG]Destaex Posted January 5, 2022 Author Posted January 5, 2022 How about Tanková brigáda. I heard this one had some good equipment in it...
ShampooX Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 Not WW2 related but check out "The Beast" about Russian Tanking in Afghanistan during the 1980's. 1
Na-zdorovie Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 (edited) does anyone know the name of a film i watched years ago, was about a Tiger on its own, cant think whether it was on a mission to destroy fuel? or just whent out alone but was hugely successful, believe he did get back to home lines in the end, was a sort of das boot for tanks Edited January 5, 2022 by Na-zdorovie
No105_Swoose Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 I've enjoyed watching a couple of tank-themed films on the War Movies channel on YouTube
rotagen Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 Everyone knows german tanks were better. It took about 20 shermans to take out one Panzer. And much of their success (in the early days at least) was due to the fact that they actually had radio communication while their enemy tankers did not. Also I read that they did not have a tank "leader" whose commands they had to follow, so real time information dictated their actions. Another little known fact was germans invented the parachute and used it toward the end of WWI - while the brits refused to give them to their pilots for "fear" of losing too many aircraft. I think there's a Rommel tank film out there, an old classic but I forget the name. I just glanced at this great list, thanks. I never knew Clint Eastwood was in a tank film, great idea to list them ! When I said "they" above I was referring to the germans of course - my brain is slow today - wiring up a 220V circuit in my home since electricians here are way way overpriced.
Frinik22 Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 German tanks were not better in fact were generally average in terms of effectiveness and reliability. But their had well trained crews ( until mid 1944), good officers , good communications and pioneered combined arms manoeuvres and tactics. German tanks had excellent guns and optics but Soviet and Allies had more reliable, simpler to operate and cheaper to manufacture and mass produced tanks which gave them the definitive edge. German crews in general had to fight from beginning of war till end in many cases or until killed or too injured to return to duty which also gave them solid experience which they could pass on to new recruits. The German Auftragstaktik system which gave commanders in the field a lot of autonomy also played a role against very rigid Soviet doctrines and constrained Allies ones.
Na-zdorovie Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 man thats gonna be hell to get of the tracks
Frinik22 Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 While a bit off topic I found this informative article comparing the two great rivals of late East front battles the Panther and the T34/85. https://militaryhistorynow.com/2015/03/20/tank-clash-the-german-panther-vs-the-soviet-t-34-85/

Excellent historical drama about a highly motivated, well trained army defending their homeland, using British Centurian tanks, against a much larger poorly trained invading army using Russian tanks. I watched this as a series on Freeview Channel 4, "Walter Presents". .. 1
