gurkesaft Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 Hi all, Here is yet another VR FPS complaint. I have tried everything down to minimal settings minimal resolution on everything, and cannot keep the framerate from constantly dropping to the 30's and causing stutters / double-images during combat. I have a 1080ti and a Quest 2 that operates beautifully in every other game. Note this is only in VR mode, and I get amazingly smooth gameplay (120+FPS) in 1080p for very high settings. I know I am not CPU or GPU limited because of this behavior, and by monitoring my 4 cores (i5 4440), which are only 60-80% utilized in pancake or VR mode (looks about the same), and my GPU is well below 50% utilized for the settings I have chosen. I have done a ton of research and gotten tons of advice from the internet, here, and friends. Everyone seems to have a similar experience (perhaps especially with the Quest 2?) and rolls their eyes like "yeah, that's the problem with this game". In Oculus desktop / debugtool, I've minimized the resolution, set to 72 FPS, cropped with FOV tangent, and reduced data rate, etc. Nothing has any impact, and it happens the same whether the setting are high or low. I would do anything to play this game in smooth VR. I've been waiting for this tech for 20+ years and it's totally heartbreaking. I can't recommend the game to friends, as it's basically nauseating and unplayable in VR. Warthunder is smooth as silk but feels super cheap and not real. Unfortunately that's all I can really play right now. I'd love to know if there is some trick I'm missing, but I really think I've covered everything and it's on the devs to fix whatever causes this. Does the USB3 bus interfere with the process? Is there a sync issue between the left and right eyes? It's very suspect that it never drops below ~half the headset framerate. Thanks in advance, Jack
TheSNAFU Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 (edited) While I now have the G2 I was using q2 for almost a year and had great results with it. Early on I was using a 1080 which was certainly not optimal for vr but it did the job with some compromises in graphic settings and those for the headset. You have a fairly weak cpu for todays standards but it should be ok if you keep settings down a bit. I would suggest using open composite instead of steam vr, make sure the q2 is not at max resolution in the Oculus software (try 1.0,.9 or lower) and run it at something less than 80 hz. Also I’d make sure asw is off as it will cause double vision on passing planes. il2 is most assuredly fine with vr and can be enjoyed on systems as old as yours. The problem is likely somewhere on your pc or your q2 settings. Edited January 2, 2022 by TheSNAFU
