Does each plane have it's own output profile?

I got my Buttkicker yesterday and have been really enjoying the tactile feedback alongside the Simshaker software. Already, I can say that I'll never fly without it again.  However, it seems like whenever I get it dialed in to my liking, something ultimately changes to where the feedback is way too strong again.  Almost as if each plane has its own set of variables or something along those lines.  Take the Mustang out and get a nice feedback profile going for the 50's.. But then take out something with a cannon and my wife is asking me if I'm OK, as things are rattling like crazy.

Edit above: Enabling compressor solved all of the rattle / signal clipping issues.  Perfecto!

Second note, what does everyone do with their gain settings?  I'm having a tough time figuring out where I should set my amp power and then combine that with the gain for each individual setting in Simshaker.  Just looking for anyone's input on how they approach this.
