Rjel Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 (edited) I've seen this happen a couple of times recently but before I make a video of it, an update to IL-2 rendered my ingame recording unusable. As can be seen in this video, I've shot up an FW-190A6 pretty well, including a couple of strikes on the canopy. I pulled off and watched the 190 lazily turn and flip from wingtip to wingtip several times. None of the maneuvers would seem to be high G and yet the AI pilot passes out three times. Can the AI be wounded and recover? Edited December 31, 2021 by Rjel

Most often, when the AI's wounded and passes out, it simply crashes. However, there are occasions when, if it has enough altitude to play with, it will repeatedly pass out and regain consciousness. If it pulls any kind of G at all, I believe that's when it loses consciousness. Based on when our player pilots are wounded, I expect it would be the 'heavily wounded' state in which we have tunnel vision in near-blackout darkness. As opposed to the much lighter wounded state, where we see some blood on the camera and/or our vision turns a bit grey. Even in the 'lightly wounded' state, I believe we're more susceptible to G forces. But the more heavily wounded you are, the less G it takes to black out. That's my theory, anyway. *Addendum: I think there might be 3 levels of injury. Can't be sure. Here's some screens I dug up of my various wounded states: I would guess this is the lightest wound state: When there's blood on the screen and your vision looks a little blurrier, it might be worse than the above wound level: And then finally, there's near-death: Edited December 31, 2021 by oc2209
VA_Kamicosmos Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 Very good to know that the AI 'responds' to wounds and G-Forces! I've always wondered that, if they were allowed to 'cheat' and ignore that stuff. Today in fact, I got a moderate wound, and was curious if 'I' would make it back to base. I did. This time. (Although, I couldn't find a single bullet hole in the plane! Although, now I realize I did not look at the underside of the craft, perhaps that's where they got me. The infamous 'shot in the butt' wound.) I was wondering if the screen was just a tad out of focus because of the injury, so also good to see that yes it was, and no I don't have to recalibrate my VR Headset! LoL.
