Redeye Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 I love PWCG, and it is my preferred way of enjoying Il2. While no 'master of the skies', I am not a terrible pilot, with years and years of experience with ww2 sims. Flying in the quick mission builder, I usually rack up and handful of kills, even with the AI skill levels at max without much issue. That said, when I fly in PWCG- humility kicks in pretty soon. AI sling shots that seem to hit me no matter what angle off and amount of G's, but more importantly, my wingmen are usually massacred in the process. I realize that their skill level goes up over time, however- there usually won't be much of it before the meet an untimely end. While I realize that this is a combination of native Il2 settings, my own (lack of) skill, I was wondering of anyone would share some good tips on: 1: How to maximize survivability in the mission planning phase. (Number of wingmen, route considerations etc) 2: Tweaks in the configs to make the campaign a bit easier 3: How to use wingmen (Commands etc) to increase the chances of them actually coming back. Thanks for all the work- love the generator!
PatrickAWlson Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 Surviving yourself: 1. Fly in flights of four or more 2. Run away frequently. Low ammo, damage taken, outnumbered, etc. 3. If outnumbered, try to steer the fight towards your own lines so you can crash land and not be captured. 4. Do not linger over targets when performing ground attack. Helping your wingmen 1. Give away victories every once in awhile to improve the quality of your AI mates 2. Worry more about your wingmen than the kill. Try to keep an eye out for them in a fight and help them. 3. If you are in command and can give orders, tell them to go home when you decide to bug. Don't let them keep fighting. For config changes: 1. If it's fighters that are killing you, tweak max enemy fighter flights downwards. Campaign-Configuration->Advanced Configuration->Mission Limits 2.Tweak max injury down. It is set to "Seriously Wounded" by default. That could result in months in the hospital. You can set it to "lightly wounded" or "not injured". Campaign-Configuration->Advanced Configuration->Campaign Preferences 3. If it is AAA or gunners you can use a mod that reduces accuracy. It's a good topic. I would like to hear what other people do to stay alive. 2 1
ghostly_doggo Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 When flying to ingress (especially stalngrad after the bubble appears) you and your flight will get picked off usually when flying to the bubble, flak is super thick even on medium settings. Your ai mates will probably just eat flak since they do not bob while flying to points, you on the other hand should absolutely bob. As well as increase alt over enemy territory. On patrol missions I'll move patrol points around so they are not over highly populated flak areas such as airfields. Like pat said running is not a crime and is historically accurate for the luftwaffe lol.
