Spinnetti Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 (edited) I like, thanks. Is this in a config file somewhere or? The "dot no text" still shows range info. How to do no text at all? Ideally I'd like to be able to do just red dot for foes in the air and on the ground and nothing else. Edited January 20, 2022 by Spinnetti

Also here is a small mod that changes the ranges at which AI aircraft (fighters) dogfight. It increases the range Novices shoot at and reduces the range for Aces. The idea being that Aces will not snipe at such long distances, (and will save ammo so fight longer), whereas novices are more likely to spray and pay, and waste ammo, also giving more notice that you are being shot at. .................... Looking at the files for the AI mod was interesting. There appears to be min and max deflection angles for each skill level. Haven't tried it but it seems like novices will try shots at a greater angle off than aces? Is that how you interpret it too? If true seems the opposite of real life doesn't it? I got the impression from reading that great aces were either good at sneaking up and shooting down someone or great at deflection shooting or both. Edited January 18, 2022 by Stonehouse
Guest deleted@290634 Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 Yes, I think that's how I interpreted it. However I assumed there was a hidden calculation or process that meant snap shots just don't succeed much at all. Therefore all the greater angle off shots are essentially considered wasteful for ALL skill levels. So ace skill in game comes from better flying parameters narrow angles off rather than shooting skill in a deflection sense. My intention was just to reduce the long range sniping, because my reading suggests the better aces shot when close (on fighters especially). And the tweak seemed to work. The aces will devastate you when they get in close, and conserve ammo until that point, giving a longer battle than novices who shoot badly from afar and alert you to their attack and run out of ammo quicker. I don't know though, all just hypothesis and impression on my part.
Stonehouse Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Just an FYI that the text files this mod (text files for each AI aircraft) alters changed a bit in the latest patch and so probably it needs to be updated
