Roshko Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 (edited) Hi! I really enjoy the "Interactive Playground"-missions by Stoopy . I am wondering if these missions can be converted/rewritten to online-missions, so that I could fly them with a couple of friends? I'd like them to have free planes-selection for any number of players, and it would probably have to be a coop-style mission. Is that possible, and will it require a lot of work, or will it hopefully be rather trivial? Edited December 29, 2021 by acebone

Kinda funny, it's the first one I did and looks dated to me compared to later PG's like Moscow that are so much better in my opinion since the logic under the hood is cleaner, but the Kuban map has a lot of staying power. Anyway, some good news and bad news. Bad news first - these playground missions really aren't suitable for conversion to co-op mode. There's a small but very critical distinction between co-op and true multiplayer missions running on a dedicated server (dserver) as far as I have been told, and it comes down to how check zones, which are used very heavily in these playground missions for the little circular areas on the map that you fly through to activate various objectives, work in co-op versus dserver multiplayer missions. Short story is, they don't work at all in co-op mode, and the work needed to convert all of them to what are called "complex triggers" would be very involved and more than what I'd want to take on, and also may have a serious performance penalty such that the misson might not be very playable. The good news is, someone who had reached out to me in a PM has recently converted the Bodenplate PG to a multiplayer mission running on a dserver, and shared with me what needed to be done. So, there is light at the end of the tunnel and although we haven't discussed making the mods public I think that is hopefully what we might be able to make happen, but no guarantees yet. I would like to convert all of the OPG's to a multiplayer option, but have no timeline on when that might be accomplished. All I can say is stay tuned, with plenty of patience since I work very long hours in RL and have some other things demanding my attention right now. Anyway, if this comes to fruition, you would need to set up a dserver to run the multiplayer mission versions as opposed to a quick co-op mode. 1

Are you thinking of the issue where check zones worked in missions run on a DServer but did not work in missions run on the in-game server? That issue was fixed and I can confirm that check zones work in coop missions run on the in-game server. I haven't tested check zones for coop on a DServer yet since I recently rebuilt my system and I haven't downloaded a new DServer yet. Here's a simple demo coop mission with entry and exit detection zones. Taxi past the second car to trigger the entry message and turn around and taxi past the first car to trigger the exit message. Jaegermeister Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 (edited) I did some tank co-op missions and it never occurred to me there was any problem with check-zones. I used a bunch of them with no problems. I try to avoid complex triggers except under certain circumstances where the check-zones do not work. Edited December 30, 2021 by Jaegermeister 1

I should know better than to quote old information I guess. Looks like I can get to work!

Roshko Posted December 30, 2021 Author Posted December 30, 2021 (edited) That's great! I was not trying to get Stoopy doing more work ? I meant: How could I do it myself? Now that it seems that everything does indeed work, it should be doable to just pull in a playground-mission in the editor and change it's type, and perhaps a few other things? I'll have a go at it. Stoopy: I actually meant to link to the Bodenplatte-version of your interactive playgrounds, because that's what I am flying these days, and having great fun with. - but I did fly the Kuban-version too, and had great fun with that as well. All the hours of fun you gave us, thanks man ❤️ Edited December 30, 2021 by acebone
