Bo_Nidle Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 Just flown the Razorback Mustang and thoroughly enjoyed it, but was surprised to hear the famous "Mustang whistle". The Razorbacks did not do this. The whistle was/is caused by inboard gun blast tube in both wings on the "Bubbletop" D/K models. The inboard gun muzzle is recessed into this tube by several inches, where as the other two have their muzzles protruding from the leading edge. (See the photo attached) The whistle is produced as air passes over this inboard guns blast tube at high AoA, diving, climbing, in the way a note is produced blowing over the open top of a bottle, which is why flying straight and level in a bubbletop does not produce this effect. Airshow warbird D models with their guns removed and a clean leading edge do not whistle either. The Razorback B/C's had their guns mounted in the wing in a different arrangement, having 4 instead of the later 6 .50's, and none of their guns having a blast tube....hence no whistle. I know its literally just been released and in the greater scheme of things its a minor point but I hope it does get removed for the sake of accuracy. But other than that, it's a very nice job. 12
Bo_Nidle Posted December 30, 2021 Author Posted December 30, 2021 (edited) Sorry but in the first video that's not the same whistle as a D. There is resonance over the .50 muzzles (?) maybe, but its nowhere near the same. Play it next to a D and you will hear the notable difference. I think the second video proves the point. You are not taking away my birds ability to whistle and coo at me. I don't care about the evidence. I don't care about the research. You sir! I challenge you to a duel!!
Art-J Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 Well, we've got dev's reply in the patch thread stating that the whistle will remain but will indeed be toned down compared to D in the next update. That concludes this thread I suppose.

Have your Seconds call upon my Seconds, if my Seconds aren't in then go directly to my thirds!
KG100_Brannon Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 Lets be all thankful that we have the flyable P-51B. Merry Christmas along with a very happy New Year as well.
Bo_Nidle Posted December 30, 2021 Author Posted December 30, 2021 Like I said, I enjoy flying the Razorback and they have done a nice job, its also my personal favourite version of the Mustang....I merely pointed out that having it whistle like a bubbletop is technically inaccurate. Happy New year. 1

Happy New year. One of the devs commented that they'll be taking a look and lessening it by about 30% on the B, I think that will get us closer to where it needs to be
Bo_Nidle Posted December 30, 2021 Author Posted December 30, 2021 Just tried the latest update and thought it sounded quieter but put it down to my imagination!

Have your Seconds call upon my Seconds, if my Seconds aren't in then go directly to my thirds! Well... I think you'd need to appoint a Second for that! That said, this is a trivial enough matter that we likely won't need them. I'd originally intended to fly a Mig-3 against whatever later war aircraft you chose... (and likely get shot down as a result). However, since I challenged you have choice of weapons - and pistols it is! I suppose we'll fly in formation with each other and use Lctrl+5 to draw pistols on each other? I knew the pistols must be in there for a reason!! Now we know! Anyone wish to act as my Second?
