1st-Blue-Baron Posted December 27, 2021 Posted December 27, 2021 First time I've encountered this. Contacted support and was told it was not part of the Great Battles series and thus, I had to contact someone else. So, I got a refund on Steam. But I'd really like to buy and play this game. Is there another way to purchase it and run it apart from Steam? 1

Is there another way to purchase it and run it apart from Steam? No, there is no way to run it without STEAM. STEAM has no effect on the game other than to be the place where you download it and start it. In fact, we recommend players disable most of the STEAM features to avoid issues.
1st-Blue-Baron Posted December 27, 2021 Author Posted December 27, 2021 Thanks Buzz! I received a message from support regarding updating C++ and .NET framework, checking to make sure the firewall was allowing the program and that Malwarebyes was not blocking it, uninstalled and reinstalled, restarted, all that. My computer is hardly odd. It's a recent Alienware Aurora R12 with an NVidia RTX 3080, 64GB of RAM, Windows 11 which comes with the latest .NET software and I checked that it was a running Windows service. No error message either. Just an extremely brief message that steam is launching it and then....nothing. Oh, and this is the Dover Blitz currently on-sale, not the earlier version. No problems at all launching games on Steam except this one. All my googling regarding this issue only produces either the antivirus problem or apply to earlier versions of the game. It's a pity. I did really want to play this one. But, in the larger scheme of things, it's hardly a tragedy ? Worst case, I'm out six and a half bucks. 1
343KKT_Kintaro Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 Hi Blue Baron, and welcome to the greatest combat flight simulation ever (sounds like an exageration, I know, but happily for all of us... it is not). 8 hours ago, 1st-Blue-Baron said: Worst case, I'm out six and a half bucks. Out? Not yet. There's no reason you do not enjoy your game same as me or same as any other mate in this game community. Let's keep trying. Will be worthwhile, trust me. I'm sill with Windows 10, so I can't help you with your Windows 11 OS install. Nevertheless, common problems preventing from properly running "Cliffs of Dover" can be easily identified so... here you have my two cents (hope they'll work for you): 1) Please be sure you activated the Steam key... dunnow chap... only to be sure... 2) Please empty your game's cache folder first. You should find the game's cache folder at Documents/1C SoftClub/il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover/cache/ If you cannot find such folder, maybe your Windows 11 is short-cutting the normal arborescence of the game... but this seems very unlikely to me. 3) Please go to your Steam application and go to "Library", then choose your "Blitz" game, then click on the "Manage" options which is nothing but that toothed cogwheel as visible on the imabe bellow... and once you have clicked on the cogwheel icon, scroll down to the last choice, "Properties", and click on it please: 4) Once you clicked on the "Properties" options, stay on the very first pop-up window you'll see, this is your game's general properties on Steam. Please be sure all boxes are unticked, same as mine: 5) Try to launch the game by clicking on "Play"... 6) If you managed to launch the game, go the Graphics options and untick the anti-epilepsy filter before launching one simulation session. 7) If after step "4" you still cannot launch the game, let's give it another try. Simply leave the Steam app open (previously unticking all the boxes I mentioned), and then go to the Steam folder in Programs/Steam/SteamApps/common/IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz ...and launch the game from its very source, the file named "Launcher64.exe". Did all the above work for you? Please let us know. If not, I'm sure we still can explore new "reasons why". 1 1
LLv34_Flanker Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 S! Also make sure to disable Steam Cloud, Steam overlay etc. And disable Steam Controller input. And lastly for least hasle have Steam and games installed elsewhere than in Program Files - folder. I have Steam + games on a separate m.2 NVME disc and no trouble at all ie. on D:\Steam

Hello Blue Baron Can I confirm you have read the 'Getting Started and Troubleshooting Guide'? It is a comprehensive guide to getting started in the sim. It is located in the 'manuals' folder in your main CLIFFS OF DOVER install folder in Steam/Steamapps/common/il2 sturmovik cliffs of dover. Your problem may be related to Steam, or it may be something else. For example the most common source of problems is your Anti-Virus blocking a correct install, or blocking the launch. Best to try installing from Steam with your AV turned off. Then turn AV back on, add an exception in AV for the entire CLIFFS OF DOVER folder and try to launch. This solution and other suggestions for getting the game up and running are in the Troubleshooting Guide. If you give it a read, you will likely find your problem.
