I've been making my own throttle quadrants and throttle boxes for many years and my last DIY throttle broke a while back and I really didn't want to make yet another device (I burnt out building so many of the over the years), so, i decided to buy the TWCD throttle since it's cheap and can be modded to feel "premium'  for very little money.

Long story short, Amazon told me that the package would arrive January 3rd, but I was so excited about getting the new device that I ended up making one of my own. I'm extremely happy with the result, the feel and the ABSOLUTE LY ZERO "stiction" of the design.

What do you guys think of my first working prototype?

Not sure I follow that rationale but we'll leave it there.  What is even less clear is how the position sensing works, which makes it difficult to assess.

Big up to ANYONE who has the inclination to make their own stuff (in this case YOU)!!

I hope it works and that you get hours of fun and games with it and once again, BIG UP!!!

Yeaah, I could've been more clear. I was very excited about having a new well-made throttle but the TWCS wouldn't come until Jan 3rd, so i decided to make one of my own to "start using it" now jaja.

I designed it so it could take both linear pots or normal, rotation pots or other rotation sensors. I chose the method used in the TWCS throttle i bought (below)

Thank you sir, I expect I will. Hopefully I have a more completed version to show at slme point.

Nice SAG! I am impressed with the rotational potentiometer adapted to the linear slide! As I'm watching you actuate it, it makes me think of using a linear scale from a digital readout for truly accurate readings. Your setup would probably be a lot cheaper than that!!! By the way, what is a TWCS?

Merry Christmas!

And when it does arrive you can keep it and have a dedicated separate RPM control to go with the throttle

Hey, thanks for the comments, I'd love to make it more accurate and the objective is to use hall sensors when i remake the electronics, but for now this is just a "quick and dirty" solution.

TWCS mean Thrustmaster Weapons Control System and it is just the name they give to one of their throttle systems.

Let me know if you do something about that digital readout.

This one has two other potentiometers on the handle so itll be more like full rom, mix and theottle control for each engine. I may get a thrid one for the junkers then!! Hahaha

If that image gets too many views, the pot will be worn-out in no time.   Nowadays the preference is to avoid introducing mechanical components that aren't part of the control itself.  For this particular application my first thought would be to try an ultrasonic sensor.

The prototype is only for the mechanism itself really, i just reused a pot from an old button box i made a long time ago ( final design isnt supossed to be hot-glued in place haha) I agree that contactless is the way to go but I believe the Hall effect sensors to be much more accurate than the ultrasonic ones. Ill look more into them though, thanks for the suggestion.
