Mysticpuma Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 The last time I tried VR it was using the Oculus DK1.... so quite a while ago Anyway, the budget I want to spend the Oculus Quest 2 seems to be perfect. I have seen various videos and it appears the worst issue I remember from the DK1 (screen door effect) is pretty much negligible. I really am not looking for recommendations on other headsets, in time I will one day go for a Reverb G4 ( ) So, for any Quest 2 users, what are your thoughts when using it with BoX? Are you happy with the clarity, is it smooth with the game, is it comfortable? Finally is the elite strap worth it and is 64Gb more than enough for BoX? Thanks for any answers, cheers, Mysticpuma.
dburne Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 (edited) It matters not the amount of storage on the headset as you will be using it connected to a PC for IL-2. The storage on the headset is more for the stand alone Quest games, not the PC-VR games. Only if you were going to have a lot of Quest games for the headset would you want more storage on the headset. Edited December 23, 2021 by dburne

Appreciate that, someone on another forum mentioned it helped when saving VR video recordings, but I am not quite sure how that works?
TheSNAFU Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 I have had the quest 2 for a little less than one year so many many hours in it. It’s a darn good headset and very versatile being a stand alone and a pc headset. It works good with IL2. Once you find settings ingame and for the headset you should find a balance between performance and graphics. The quest2 has some clarity issues outside the cockpit but inside gauges are sharp and readable. It’s ok outside the cockpit but it is not as sharp and colors are a bit washed out. It has a good sweet spot and the field of view is not bad at all. The headset is a nice entrance into vr particularly given its attractive price. I’m glad I got it. Now after a year, I want better visuals so am waiting on the g2 I ordered.

I guess that would depend on the program and where it resides that you use to do the video recordings. If it is a Quest program installed on the Quest headset, then yeah it will use the onboard storage. if it is a PC program and your using Quest linked to the PC to run the program, then yeah it should be saved to your PC drive.
Lensman1945 Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 The entry level Quest 2 comes with 128Gb storage now. 64 Gb model is discontinued. 1
dgiatr Posted December 24, 2021 Posted December 24, 2021 Its a decent entry VR headset as mentioned above for its price , i am quite happy with it, but you have to set your headset resolution higher than the recommended one ( i play at about 2700x2700 in steamvr and 60-70 fps ) in order to get a more clear view outside the cockpit, so you have to own a relatively strong graphic card , memory and processor. Its very comfortable ( i haven't any aftermarket strap) and generally i dont have any working issues with the headset. it combines just fine with IL2. If you want to use necksafer for checking your six (which i think you cannot do without it ) you cannot use open composite but only steamvr so you will have an additional penalty loss of some fps. You should also use FSR upscaler (renderscale about 0.8 and sharpness about 0.9 in order to gain some performance). Although i am quite happy with this headset, if i could return back the time ( with my current experience) i would have got G2, for its better clarity. i think that additional cost for Quest2 for buying strap , plus usb link cable, e.t.c, reduces the difference in cost between Q2 and G2 ( you should also know that usb link cable for Q2 induces some distortion in video quality due to compression ).
