Rjel Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 (edited) Without trying to pass myself off as an expert, I wanted pass along an error I see in a number of P-51 skins, including all of the default skins. It was also seen in the new screen shots featured in the latest DD. As they are shown on the default skins and the template, the No Walk marking is more square when viewed. The No Walk marking on the left wing flap should be angled so that the line follows the rivet line of the flap. This was done on both the B/Cs and Ds. I would assume on the earlier Allison models too but those aren't an issue for us now. Examples are below. Note how when the flap is down, the vertical part of the marking is nearly straight up and down. I know most skinners strive for accuracy. I do. I also realize we have to allow ourselves some artistic license as perfection when creating a full color 3D skin from old black and white photos can be unattainable. I hope this little feature can help bring some more historical accuracy to the P-51s for those skinners who add so much to this sim. Edited January 7, 2022 by Rjel Proof reading is not my forte.... obviously. 2 1
CraigNT55 Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 I never noticed that and I've done a bunch of Mustang skins all the way back to IL-2 Battle Over Europe! Thanks for the information! 1

Ptolemy_Soter Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 I spotted two errors on P-51 B/C and D skins too. I reported them to ICDP. Do you want me to post them here too ?

PS: btw - dunno why - sometimes right marking is there I haven't looked at many pictures of P-51s in British service so maybe that was the standard for them. The other picture of SX * M looks like it did too but its hard to tell from that angle. I've looked at a lot of USAAF P-51s, factory fresh and those in service and I've not seen one with the marking on the right flap. One thought comes to mind about the No Walk marking. Because of the original canopy design, the pilot could only enter from the left side so that would explain why the marking was only on the left. Perhaps on the British P-51 it was added because of the Malcolm Hood is installed? I do love the Mustangs in this sim. Excellent work. Edited January 1, 2022 by Rjel 1

Ptolemy_Soter Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 Hi Viks ! Here are the two little inaccuracies I've spotted. They apply to the three Mustangs we have in game. First, air source grills that are on each side of the nose are not correctly proportionned. Here are some photos of the correct proportions: The problem is the size of ventilation holes. They are too small. I know I posted D models only but this piece is the same since B-5-NA production block right through D and K models. The second inaccuracy is the color of USAAF roundels. The blue is too light Wikipedia seems to have the correct color : Note that there is no outline on P-51 roundels. And a real life example from USAF National Museum's collections. Thanks for all your work !
Ptolemy_Soter Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 I've just seen the corrections in game. Thanks a lot !
Danziger Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 Need to get the Bstang template corrected tho.
Pufff Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 (edited) I've noticed the No Walk marking isn't usually painted separately on the fuselage fillet, just on the flap. There may be some exceptions to this for the 4th FG assuming the attached photos aren't colorized. Edited August 9, 2023 by Pufff Refuted my own assumption.
