IckyATLAS Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 Are the tank machine guns operational in IA mode, and if yes when do they fire, and for what type of target. I am not able to see a case where this happens. It seems that tanks use only their main gun. I saw in a IL2 video a tank with a turret AAA gun firing to a plane. Can someone help me identify which tank model was this.
BlitzPig_EL Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 (edited) Pretty sure the only tank in the sim that has a machine gun for air defense is the M4 Sherman, at least among the playable tanks. I shot down one of my squad mates while I was in the Sherman and he was trying to strafe me while flying a FW 190. It was gratifying. He thought it was less so. 40plus Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 I have been shot down by the coax machine gun of an AI T-34 so the answer to the question I think you are asking is yes. I was doing a shallow angle staffing run at the time in a QMB mission. I was low enough to be in the tanks firing arc.
Monty_Thrud Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 Yup, was watching the other day in a mission, Shermans AI Tank Commanders firing their .50 MGs at planes that had been attacking the Airfield, the aircraft have to be low enough for them to fire though.
IckyATLAS Posted December 18, 2021 Author Posted December 18, 2021 Thanks it seems clear so against air it does work. But here another question. If there is say an AI simple machine gun position ( one soldier and a machine gun) against an AI tank. The soldier fires his machinegun at the tank at short distance say 200 meters. From that side AI does what it can. The AI Tank on the other hand attacks the machine gun with its cannon and fires a few shots before killing the soldier. That is ridiculous to spend a few cannon rounds against a simple soldier. It should have used its machinegun. Have you witnessed that behavior.
