Lieutenant_Meyer Posted December 16, 2021 Posted December 16, 2021 (edited) I've been following the engine settings from the "in game" specs for combat power. Should be lasting up to 1 hour but I've damaged my engine the last few times I've flown it. Not sure what I'm doing wrong - any advice? Edited December 16, 2021 by Lieutenant_Meyer

I think that the Spit V and Spit IX both have manual radiator settings that you have to open when flying hard for extended periods.

I find that you can easily go to emergency power if you're not careful, maybe you didn't notice and you blew up the engine. Last Sunday I flew the XIV online and I could stay in combat power for long time without trouble.
Diggun Posted December 16, 2021 Posted December 16, 2021 When the supercharger kicks in it can book the engine from combat to emergency as you gain an extra few lbs boost, worth monitoring when you're around super charger height. You can't shove the throttle around in the Griffon like you can with the Merlin; I've blown the engine a few times by excitedly ramming the throttle open after a dive, seizing it.
Lieutenant_Meyer Posted December 16, 2021 Author Posted December 16, 2021 Thanks all - I'll need to keep a closer eye on the settings I guess. I may be bumping into emergency and not recognizing it.

I./JG52_Woutwocampe Posted December 16, 2021 Posted December 16, 2021 Talking about the engine of the Mark XIV, I saw a vid lately of a spit mark IX flyby, and in the same vid, an identical flyby from a XIV to compare the merlin's sound and the griffon's. They sounded a bit different, but the mark XIV certainely WASNT more quiet. I cant help but feel like the griffon in the game isnt loud enough. It leaves much to be desired imo. 1
