ESC menu mapping

I have tried to map the ESC menu fucntion to several different controller buttons, but it never does anything when pressed.

That's odd. My homebuilt controller which uses an Arduino maps that just fine, in fact I've now removed it as I kept pressing by accident and exiting the game at an inopportune moment.
