chris455 Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Hi guys, Tried doing some mud moving recently. P-47, 500 lb bombs, winter map. Yes I am arming the bombs. Very little if any visual or audio effect upon impact. Am I forgetting something? Has something changed? Rockets are fine- Thanks for any useful suggestions-
BigGinger Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Most likely your fuse timer is set too short, and you’re dropping the bombs too low. On the aircraft setup page try a 5 second fuse, you can drop bombs set that way extremely low and they should still detonate. 1
chris455 Posted December 13, 2021 Author Posted December 13, 2021 Ill give it a try, thank Big Ginger!
Jade_Monkey Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Either what BigGinger said or you are actually disarming the bombs. Bombs are armed by default, so you saying you are arming them, it sounds like you could be disarming them by hitting that key.
THERION Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 The bombs are definitively armed per default. I remember some months ago, it was not consequent. Some planes had armed bombs, others not. This was changed, because it caused some confusion. Now you always take off with bombs armed. 1
=EXPEND=CG_Justin Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 I always use a 3 second fuse on the 110 and I have to drop EXTREMELY low in order for the bombs to not detonate. As was previously stated, if you are in fact NOT disarming the bombs, you may want to adjust your dive angel/release point for better results.
Yogiflight Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 I always us ethe 'Standard' setting and I never had any trouble with not exploding bombs, except I forgot to arm them again (I always disarm them before takeoff and if I am not sure if I already armed them, I take a short look in the HUD)
[TWB]80hd Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 Against static targets, a 5-second fuse guarantees (as far as I know and have seen no evidence to the contrary) that no matter how low you drop (below 50 feet, for sure) the bombs will go off after 5 seconds. Against moving targets with a fixed path and constant speed (AI tanks, trains, ships) you can just guestimate a drop target they will reach 5 seconds later... Contact fuses are great too, because you know that you have to drop them above a certain altitude or you will clean your own clock... this also prevents bombs from ka-chonging off tanks or otherwise bouncing and ultimately detonating away from the target. Highly effective if you keep the restrictions in mind, also great fun against fighters chasing you if you pull it off right.
chris455 Posted December 18, 2021 Author Posted December 18, 2021 Thank you for all the great answers guys- I am a bozo because I was in fact disarming the ordnance vice arming it. All good now! 1
