Please start investigating Unreal Engine 5

The new Unreal 5 Engine has enormous potential as a flight-sim and tank-sim engine based on below interactive tech demo, because it offers: "huge view distances with essentially zero pop-in". Is it possible to integrate all your planes and high-fidelity tanks inside Unreal Engine 5 ?

No way il-2 or dcs can make use of the unreal engine without recoding almost everything. But Microprose could look into this since one of the suggested game engines was the unreal engine. The mighty eight will probably take years to surface so it just might make use of unreal engine 5 or... 6!?

Some fancy it. You can have DCS minus Russian developers if more classified stuff is your thing and you absolutely don‘t want Prepar3D because it is somehow not gamey enough:

I have not seen any such game engine that would support a world geodetic system to render your place on earth. Another flat earther. What is ok for gaming is just apalling for next generation platforms. Like another electric car with an „extra long power chord“.

It would be nothing but stupid to become dependent on a 3rd party game engine producer for no reason other than a marginal plus in eye candy.

This meta 'unreal engine' might also simply be a tech demo for all we know. Making those is one thing, making a game that can be released is another!

Meta is talking about the future of...

I rather put my faith in a full imminent release ... Star Citizen !???

That's why I asked the devs if they can move all their planes and tanks into the Unreal 5 engine (by that I mean the geometry and flight physics).

The devs can do a feasibility study first: start with one plane to see how hard that would be, and then quickly construct a simple map with stock destructible assets.

Even that would essentially be starting over from scratch.

For what purpose though? What would be the point of using a third party engine when you have the ability to use (and improve) your own? Personally I'd rather have my own engine that meets my specific needs/requirements rather than have a third party engine that I will have to rework.

Fair enough; to help them along I've decided to do the feasibility study for them, being an experienced programmer, IT guy, hobbyist 3d modeller and postgrad student in a.o. neural nets and more "traditional" AI. After careful deliberation for at least 3 seconds, I've come to the conclusion that:

- It is not feasible for 1CGS to "integrate all [their] planes and high-fidelity tanks inside Unreal Engine 5".

All joking aside, there is no such thing as "integrating" a game into another game engine. In rare cases I've seen developers switch between major versions of the *same* game engine, and even that takes weeks to months to complete, with lots of headaches along the way. And that with engines that are ostensibly the same! Honestly, the effort and cost involved with switching an entire game engine stops only just shy of just dumping the game and start all over again.

Although, on second thought, I'd rather just start all over again. Gives you the opportunity to learn from the mistakes you made on your first attempt and create a better framework for your game with the extra knowledge you gained.
