conure Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Hello all, I hope you're all well! I wanted to ask about some performance issues in seeing sometimes I'm career. I have a clean windows 10 system that is very well maintained with all drivers up to date. System is a 9700k stock, 2080ti, 32GB DDR 4 3000mhz running off an SSD. I play at 3440x1440 resolution and graphics are a mix of high/ ultra with 4x AA. The sim maintains between 130 and 144 fps and is generally very smooth, but sometimes nearby a busy frontline everything feels sluggish. I've read this is due to the simulation slowing down to process all the units - but I'm only running on medium frontline destiny and medium difficulty. The campaign in particular is the Spanish JG company flying the 109e and the airfield is practically on the frontline. Is this normal/expected behaviour even on a (relatively) high end system? Changing graphics settings has very little impact, FPS stays high but sim feels sluggish. I've noticed it speeds up as the AI units kill each other, which I think makes sense. Thanks all
oFlyingDutchman Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Usually when that happens to me is when there are too many aircrafts around, the engine can't keep up and the game plays slower even though my fps is still high I dont think its an hardware or software issue in your system but the engine itself 6
Voidhunger Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Yeah, i dont want to start again, but this is the biggest problem of this game and everytime i start the career im frustrated. 2

Thanks all Career mode can be very resource demanding - your system should handle graphic settings quite easy. The "issue" or "bottleneck" is, as others stated too, the number of other aircrafts and/or active combat units appearing and triggered by the mission you fly. I would recommend to start a career with moderate settings, have a look here: It's actually the option "Density of the front-line activity" which can hurt your performance. Try with "Scattered" and see how it performs. Cheerio
I./JG52_Woutwocampe Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 Yep this limitation with the game engine and AI objects amount is so frustrating because it will actually cripple the performance during the most enjoyable missions. It happened to me a couple of time lately. Its especially noticeable when flying above Kuban which will throw the most impressive number of aircrafts around usually. Thats why this engine makes it impossible for now to have heavy bombers or huge formations, and that really breaks my heart.
conure Posted December 13, 2021 Author Posted December 13, 2021 Thanks all - I realised it was a very specific spot in the career where there's 4 airfields, all active, in very close proximity on a frontline. Dozens of aircraft and ground units all in one place. Once I moved on from this phase of the campaign, things were much improved. 2
