Black_Hat Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Hi, I am pretty new in this game and I realised that the trims not working. To make it easy, I took the default settings, so the elevator trim is attached with RCtl + Cursor up/ RCtl + Cursor down. I take the Yak 1 ser.69, when I press these keys nothing happens. I have this problem with any plane. Every trim, yaw, roll and pitch is not reacting. I am aware that 109 and 190 work with stabilizer. I tried the axis and switches individually. Furthermore, I tried with different keys, attached it with joystickaxis, deleted everything else, reinstalled it. What do I forget?? Hope someone can help me...
4thFG_Cap_D_Gentile Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 Hi Sinus, what stick are you using?

Black_Hat Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 (edited) Thanks for helping me, I use the Logitech 3D Pro joystick. I have checked that "Simplified Controls" is not marked... Edited December 12, 2021 by sinus14
cardboard_killer Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 This is a new one for me, that no trim works on any plane. This sounds stupid, but when you say it doesn't work, you mean that the trim tabs/stabilizer does not move on the ailerons/rudder/elevators nor do the trim wheel/buttons move in the cockpit when you use the key combo or any other assigned button/combo?
Black_Hat Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 (edited) When I press the assigned button/combo for pitch, roll, yaw/reset, rudder, elevator, aileron ,trim reset or stabilizer nothing happens. The respective cockpit wheels/buttons are not moving. As example, I take a 109 and I want to adjust the stabilizer. For that I assign: "Adjustable stabilizer axis" with: e.g "Cursor up" / "Cursor down" "Adjustable stabilizer switch: pitch up" with: "Cursor up" "Adjustable stabilizer switch: pitch down" with: "Cursor down" I also tried switch and axis seperately. When I press "Cursor up" or "Cursor down" nothing happens, the stabilizer wheel on the bottom left side is not moving. I tried with different keys and axis. The Technochat points nothing out and the altitude course is not changing... Edited December 12, 2021 by sinus14
ACG_Ginger Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 (edited) I had the same problem on Combat box last night , what ever i tried did not work on the 109? Either on the warthog stick , hotas , or key board? Edited December 12, 2021 by ACG_Ginger
cardboard_killer Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 I reaching here, but are you using any kind of controller software outside of the basic windows PnP? Something that came with the stick or a third party program?
Black_Hat Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 No, only offical programs. Logitech Gaming Software and Razer Synapse. And what do you mean with "I reaching here"?

Make sure you assign every option with your desired keys, so f.ex. push buttons but also the axis. See here: If you leave out one of these options, they won't work! Here in this example the "Aileron trim" will definitively not work, because the button are assigned, but not the axis. Check this. Cheerio
BlitzPig_EL Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 Also remember that several aircraft do not have rudder or aileron trim at all. Yaks, Bf 109s, FW 190s all fall into that group.
Black_Hat Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 Thanks for the support, I am aware that you have to assign both the axis and the switches, ..but I wasn´t 100% sure. Another example: Here I take the Tempest Mk.V ser.2, I want to adjust the Rudder, with the following settings: When I press (or hold press or press often) "Cursor Left" or "Cursor Right" , nothing moves, nothing changes.

Meaning I don't know if that could be a problem, but it might be, so let's rule it out--disable or uninstall both programs and see if that allows use of the trims.
Black_Hat Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 (edited) Ok, I took an old keyboard and mouse with no program an tried it. I uninstalled both programs(razer, logitech) and tried it, and I reinstalled both programs and tried it. Edited December 12, 2021 by Sinus707

Black_Hat Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 I run it without any marked, but the plane keeps on straight course?----

Black_Hat Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 (edited) I meant that if I adjusted the trim that didn't work, the course would stay(on straight course). In other words: nothing happens when I adjust the trimm, like it does all the time Edited December 12, 2021 by Sinus707
cardboard_killer Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 3 minutes ago, Sinus707 said: I meant that the course stays when I adjust the not working trim (on straight course). I think what Theron was asking is, are your flight controls working--your ailerons, elevators and rudder. So you can bank, point your nose up and yaw; you just cannot trim those control surfaces. BTW, I flew a Yak-1 for a long time without ever trimming the plane. So, don't let it stop you from flying while we all try to figure it out.

Do you see the technical icons on the right of your screen border? You know the little green squares indication your power settings etc.? If so - might be a stupid question - but do you see a blue square with steering wheel by coincidence? The blue square with a steering wheel would be the autopilot, which is automatically on when you start in the air. Just to mention it... 1 minute ago, Sinus707 said: yes, aileron trim, elevator trim, rudder trim, yaw, roll and pitch is still not reacting 1. Did you also check this? 2. What about this? Does your controls show any motion?

I see that there are little orange boxes next to your bindings, these mean that these keys are used for other commands. Run your courser over the orange box and it will tell you what other commands are using them. You may have a conflict of commands. If removing the conflict does not work then I would save the input file and set the key binding to default. If this works then you may have a corrupt input file and have to rebind all your settings. Good Luck
Black_Hat Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 I tried default setting. And the orange boxes generate automaticly when axis and switch is attached.. 14 minutes ago, THERION said: The blue square with a steering wheel would be the autopilot, Autopilot is off?. By the way, when I turn on the autopilot, the trims adjust depending on the situation they are in (runway, in the air). That's working. 20 minutes ago, THERION said: 1. Did you also check this? Yes
cardboard_killer Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 If you use Steam, try this: If the above doesn't work (I have to reiterate, I've never heard of anything like this, that all controls work except for all trim on all planes) let's try this: open up the data folder in the IL-2 folder. Rename the input folder to input.old Then, start IL-2. Go to a quick mission in a Yak-1, start parked. Once plane is ready, unpause the game. Use an external view to look at the elevator trim tabs. Press and hold the right control button and the up key simultaneously. Hold it for a few seconds. If that didn't work, go back to the data folder, delete the new input folder and rename input.old to input And I will keep thinking in the meantime. 1
FuriousMeow Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 (edited) In the screenshot you posted of setting the trim tab controls, why don't you have these controls set (circled in red)? EDIT: Also, I noticed you mentioned that you used autopilot on the runway and saw the "trim tabs" move but I just put autopilot on in QMB and watched the elevator trim tab go to neutral and was never adjusted after that by autopilot. Are you trying to use the trim controls as the primary flight control? Edited December 13, 2021 by FuriousMeow Cuz I can

I went to steam > properties > controller > and set every game on "using default settings". When I then started IL 2, with joystickaxis the trim was working?.... Any keyboardbutton, joystickbutton and mouse button/axis is still not working for trim. But I can live with that... It is strange, the game accept any inputoption, but not on trim. I dont have any other problems with flight games. I absolutely dont know where the mistake was, but anyway it works. Thanks for helping me!!!!!

Lucky77 Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 11 hours ago, Sinus707 said: Yes it works, When I then started IL 2, with joystickaxis the trim was working?.... I am having the same problems you have had. (I can not make any trim work.) I was going to try the solution you used but I do not understand what you mean about using a joystickaxis for trim. Can you please explain. I use a thrustmaster 16000 and throttle and I planned on using one of the many POV hats to set the 109 F4 stabilizer axis.
Lucky77 Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 Ok the fix to rename to the input folder worked!!!! Then I reread the bit about you have to also set the axis at the same time. If I change the the three settings Axis, Up and Down on the stabilizer it works and I was able to set the values to a POV switch. Thank you both so much for figuring this out.
