WWGeezer Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 I am a long time Rise of Flight / BOX / Flying Circus supporter, but sometimes you have to be critical about what you see. One of my great joys when flying with VR are the interior cockpits. The 3D models and the textures are incredible. This week I had some time in the Macchi and it was stunning how detailed the dashboard was and the subtle textures. My heart is really in the WW1 birds though and it was a little shocking to jump from the Macchi into the DFW. The wood grain and metal textures were so muddy that it obscured the quality of the 3D model. Unfair to compare planes from different eras, so I got into the Bristol and the textures where much better in some of the earlier released FC aircraft. Am I the only one that is seeing this? 3
=LD=Brazo Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 The Bristol sure is nice but I wish they reduce the texture resolution (significantly) of the compass in the top wing as it looks so odd against the poor textures of the bristol wings. Its probably too much to ask to do it the other way around
WWGeezer Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 Sure feels like the WWII birds get more love on the textures.
J5_Adam Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 This was a forum topic way way back in RoF. I think it was Jorri who bringing up the fact that the cockpits and 3D textures etc were becoming less and less detailed as time went on compared to the very first 2 aircraft from the initial release in May/June 2009. The posting was around 2011 or 2012. probably has to do with limited funds maybe. I can’t say for sure. Just a guess. Also, I haven’t seen the new “re”-release of the DFW so I have no opinion.
WWGeezer Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 Yup, I am sure it is a resource question about where you spend your time. New maps and new aircraft ( like the Handley Page ) are likely a bigger priority for playability. I just hate to see the bar dropped down lower on visual quality of the textures.

US103_Baer Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 Actually I felt they started poorly, then improved and lately are back to the initial standard. The first 2 planes in FC were the Dr1 and Spad XIII. The cockpit textures in them feel very plain compared to the later D7, Dolphin, Bristol etc. 15 hours ago, WWGeezer said: Sure feels like the WWII birds get more love on the textures. Plus this of course. Different teams?

As most are aware, since the beginning of FC, WW1 planes are being ported over from ROF by a subcontractor(Ugra) ostensibly so that the in-house developers can concentrate on WW2. I’ve not heard of any changes in this regard. The amount of time that customers have to wait for completion of WW2 modules seems to have increased substantially, nevertheless)
WWGeezer Posted December 13, 2021 Author Posted December 13, 2021 Yup yup.....SeaSerpent has it right. I wonder if there is any chance that over the life of the sim they will revisit and improve cockpit textures? 2020 and 2021 have not been easy on any businesses, the sim continues to improve overtime ( remember when you had to limit enemy aircraft to like six and the AI never attacked live players). Hopefully 2022 will bring us more good things.
Avimimus Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 I was actually under the impression that the Breuget and the DFW were much more detailed ...art is subjective I guess?
Feathered_IV Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 (edited) I noticed the DFW cockpit was looking rather simplified in its detail and texture too. I guess Ugra Media is not necessarily contracted to give the aircraft a makeover, but more to import them. We may see further refinements by the devs or volunteers later. DD_Arthur Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 Cockpit textures?? Tell me about the wings...... 1

WIS-Redcoat Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 Perhaps Oyster hasn't touched them yet. He has done a lot of work on some of the WWI planes 1
NO.20_Krispy_Duck Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 That would be my guess as well: the aircraft is ported over, fixes are made where needed, released in what is deemed an acceptable state, and later on the visuals are refined. There have been several times where an already-released plane gets improved internal and external texturing. I agree the Bristol and the WWII planes have more refined cockpit textures than the current DFW, but at least it's something we know the devs can improve in the future.
