Do you notice frame stability? Top? Worse?

 

Do you notice differences between the cloud preset, low, medium, high or extreme?

Massive difference in both aesthetics, scale and gpu-load. Just try it.

Frametimes are much more consistent now regardless of looking at clouds or not. Previously clouds could add anything from 2 to 3 msecs to the frametime. Also it's likely that this longstanding issue is no more:

Will have to test some more and see.

It's still there, the on the fly loading. Not sure if it's gpu memory or ram loading. 

With heavy cloudcover I'm getting  up to 4ms less gpu frametime compared to heavy cloudcover pre-v2 clouds. Rather amazing as the performance difference in those settings is more than I would get upgrading from a 3080 to 3090.

I put clouds now at Extreme and have similar performance as before with much improved visuals.

This update solved all of the micro stutters I was experiencing with my old graphics settings. Further, it has allowed me to turn shadows up to ultra and run clouds on high as well as set steamVR SS to 164% on my index with only the most occasional micro stutter.  Huge boost in performance and visuals. Thank you devs!
