Quality of Life

I keep paying for planes and expansions but I think many would appreciate some quality of life features. DCS and iL2 are different products in my mind but DCS has some features worth emulating.

Key bindings:

-Ability to filter by plane

-highlight the keybind when you press a button (eg. If I depress joy2 on my warthog, make the list of keybinds scroll and highlight the command currently bound to joy2)

Rearm/refuel: make it so we don't have to finish flight and select a new plane to rearm and refuel.

Great game. Hoping my recent purchases can fund some long needed QOL features.

Repair/rearm/refuel has been in Il-2 for quite some time - it has to be implemented by the mission maker for it to function.  Maybe you knew that already and you're speaking of a specific scenario you would like to see it available in, but that wasn't apparent in your post.

Just pointing this out before other people do: There have been a huge number of upgrades to graphics, damage models, basic physics  - all of which apply backwards to existing aircraft and modules.

I'm actually a bit surprised by the number of improvements the sim receives.

Of course, there are all things we'd like (fire-select on the Hs-129, airspeed impacts on the ability/speed to reload Lewis guns, separate control-bindings for the rings on WWI turrets, an Il-2 1946 style padlock view, more AI improvements)... but that doesn't mean that there aren't QoL improvements going on in other areas, of even massive introductions of new features. It is important to acknowledge the amount of attention the sim receives from the devs (including already released content).

I hope redoing the moving prop effects is on the "to fix" list.

I agree. Especially the side profile effect.

I think the side profile looks far better than the disk look when it’s reflecting sunlight. I do hope the P-51 in cockpit prop view is fixed. It looks terrible and also looks like a 3 bladed prop instead of four.

Key bindings:

Actually, this is my worst nightmare about DCS.

I lost the key set up 4 times without any reason. I really don't want to spend 40/50 minutes to re-map every plane.

See you DCS

I don't like how the tips are invisible. I'd rather see the whole profile of the blade. Its somthing that's always bothered me. ?

You dont surely - The profiles default or altered  are in your Saved games files Config/input/aircraft type/joystick- away from the root folder so wont get touched by a patch. Worst case you need to reload the each controllers profile which takes seconds.

An ECS binding that actually works when bound to a controller button, than us VR users can finally stop fumbling for the keyboard every stinking sortie.  It's been there from the beginning and still doesn't work.

When autologin is selected, why in the hell does it stop and wait for us to push a green button?  When I select quit the game, why do I need to confirm?  Are we children?  Is this Microcrap?  You can be your ass your competitors ain't making us suffer these little indignities.

It is worth noting that key-bindings are universal - if you change them for one plane, this changes them for all of the planes.

Because WWI and WWII aircraft are simpler (even their start-up procedures are)... it is possible to get by with only setting up key-bindings once. Of course it is important to read the information for each plane separately, as the system modelling is quite deep and these keys often control very very different processes (e.g. flaps have an automatic retract on the Ju-88, have a retract and then drop to pre-set setting on the Mig-3, landing gear are manually cranked on the I-16 etc.)

I would greatly appreciate something like this as well. :good:

The rest.....meh.

IL2 needs prop vortices which affect flight when flown thru them.

When learning a new plane I don't want to scroll through a long list of stuff that doesn't apply. It may not be a nuisance to many, however i would consider this a quality of life feature rather than a mandatory fix. It would just make it simpler for those of us with only 45 minutes game time here and there.

Highlighting the control when keys are pressed like DCS allows a quick refresher and again is QOL.

Not everyone has the same priorities in understand. But these changes wouldn't actually hurt the game or make it worse in any way.

I was not aware of rearm and refuel option. I generally just fly wings or Finnish whatver servers so I'll have to look for those options.

Thanks everyone!
