Hi, Im going to set up my controllers for BoX again tomorrow on a new machine. As my set up is "packaway", ive started to use a powered 7 port USB hub for them whilst flying DCS. I know DCS uses the Device ID name from windows to identify the controllers but cant remember if BoX does similar,  Previously I always plugged each controller into a specific usb port as a precaution (old habit throwback to the pre Blitx Clod days).

My questions are -

if I plug and unplug the hub will the game remember what devices are what the next time I connect the hub?

Are the ports in which the devices are connected to the hub critical or can they be plugged in randomly?

I guess this is a does the game recognise device ID question really.

Thanks

Boo

In my experience (no hub), I needed to plug in the controllers in the order in which they appeared in the IL-2 settings screen (i.e., joy0..., joy1..., etc.).

Thanks Jim - if the hub doesnt make a difference that would be a royal pain in the butt for me.

You're welcome BOO. Let us know how it goes. I need to swap out USB connections at times and I was wondering if a hub would help simplify that. At the moment, I just make sure to swap my highest IL-2 connection (joy2) so there is no issue when I plug it back in again.

I use a powered hub with a switch that also disconnects it completely when not in use, it has 4 USB devices on it and I've found to have no issue with simply turning it on whenever I want to play IL2 or any sim for that matter.

IL2's config uses device IDs to identify the controllers but there's a catch as it then assigns its own IDs to them - see here:

This is both very helpful, thank you, and gives hope.

If I understand this correctly, worst case I look at what the game now thinks is Joy1 in the current map and if its different from the controller originally assigned, just change the controllers number in the devices.txt to fit it.  1 minute job?

Im hoping the fixed inputs on the hub negate it completely but time will tell!

At present, Im still looking at my narrow, neck breaking stairs and debating if lugging all the kit down them for a couple of hours is a "thing" today. That and that they are stored in my lads room which, him being 13, is also a death trap makes the endeavour no simple task!

Yup, that's all I had to do last time I switched things around.

Ive done a "concept" hack with an old sidewinder and a cougar MFD. All seems ok using the hub.

Thanks all!
