Bremspropeller Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Why are you suggesting videos right before hitting the sack that will give me anxiety for the rest of the night? 2
JimTM Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Yikes! Much respect for the folks that do that. 1
Gambit21 Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 OK - not taking a thing away from these guys...I couldn't do what they do. Nope However there's this guy named Alex Honnold - Did you guys see "Free Solo"??? Free Solo I've stood below El Capitan, I'm climbed up the back side and stood on top of it. I've been in the valley watching (normal) climbers with gear and see what a tiny, tiny speck they are on that wall. This guy is something quite unique. 1
JimTM Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 I haven't seen the movie but that's quite the trailer. People like that are on another level entirely.

He’s on another level among people who are another level. He’s likely the only person that will ever do or even attempt this. 1

Okay; I’m never ‘gonna complain about changing the headlight bulb on my wife’s VW Golf ever again!? 4
unlikely_spider Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 See, I don't think that would scare me too much - it actually seems like a lot of fun. I'm a former pro photographer who still dabbles in landscapes from time to time, and I've scared my wife while perching on precarious locations to get good images. However, even if I had the strength and talent of Alex Honnold (not that anyone else in the world likely does) I still wouldn't put myself in the free climbing situations that he does. It's precisely the safety gear in the above video that would keep me from freaking out. (But yes, watch Free Solo. It's a really good movie and I'm not even that interested in rock climbing as a subject)
NoelGallagher Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 i think it's awesome as long as they do it legally lol it's like taining yourself to live the life on the edge
Trooper117 Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 I still remember my first parachute jump... ''Just pull yourself out onto that metal plate under the wing. Sidestep along it while you hang onto the wing strut... when I give you the thumbs up, launch yourself backwards into the freefall position''. All this at 3,000ft and the slipstream trying to rip you off the plane! ?
Guest deleted@188321 Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 This is right near the town I live in. I know at one point it was the largest free standing radio mast in the western hemisphere. Not sure if that's the same case now. It's near Rowena, SD and Larchwood, IA.

Climbing a vertical rock face is necessarily difficult. Changing a VW headlight bulb is unnecessarily difficult.
Feathered_IV Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 At the moment YouTube thinks I am a Georgian peasant with a hankering for old-timey folk songs. It’s actually pretty relentless about it too.
