Oculus2 in Steam version won't let me control start menu without the mouse, or control the aircraft at all

I play IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad in non VR mode on Steam without issues.  I recently bought an Oculus2 and when I open the game in VR mode I can see the hanger and the menus in VR mode, but I can't click on or control anything including the choice of battle or the start button without using the mouse.  Once I get everything started using the mouse, I can see everything including the cockpit in VR, but I have to press the "P" key on my keyboard to start.  After that, the flight starts but I can't control anything with either the VR controllers, game pad or mouse, only the keyboard.  What am I doing wrong, and how can I control the start screen in the hanger using my VR controllers?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Martin,

You can't control the game using VR controller, not the menus, not the planes or anything else. leave those to the side. 

Every control in your game must be assigned to a joystic, throttle, keyboard or other physical button or input device.

I personally use a joystick, a Throttle Quadrant, rudder pedals and my mouse and keyboard for easy stuff that I can do without taking my headset off.

 

By the way, by oculus2 do you mean a RiftS or a Quest2 headset?

I use the Quest2.
