A Self Help thread for Troubleshooting common hosting issues?

I'm looking for a repository of information or FAQ on server hosting.

 

We're flying co-op with a small group and, recently, our host was unable to get a server up and running for our campaign due to a network reset having changed his router settings. I was just looking for information or, hopefully, a sticky thread, that went through the common issues and might give us a method more sophisticated than trial and error to help resolve the problem. At the very least, is some support or documentation available on hosting and common issues that might arise?
