FowlPlay Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 Forgive me if this has been addressed before--and if it has, please point me in the right direction if you can--but I'd like to know if local multiplayer (LAN) is a feature either within the Great Battles series, or possible with third-party software. I would like to host a few matches at home among friends, but I have not been able to find a straightforward answer. Obviously I'm aware that everyone could log online within IL2 and join a private match, but I'm strictly interested in a yes/no for local, hard wired, old-school LAN matches. Thank you.
Fafnir_6 Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 (edited) Hello, It most certainly is possible! Simply go into the multiplayer section in-game and "create server". You can pick a name for your server and configure it as desired. If you are behind a router you will need to forward ports 28000 (both TCP and UDP) and port 28100 (TCP) to the hosting computer (I typically have a mix of people connecting over the LAN and from the internet). There are a few stock missions available to host but for the really good stuff go here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/forum/113-multiplayer-missions-co-op-and-dogfight/ . I have enjoyed many of the community-made missions there with my son and friends, especially the dogfight co-ops made by Leon and Tips (these feature respawns for when you screw up and need a new plane). There are additional multiplayer missions available in the Flying Circus and Tank Crew forum sections if you want to host those. Cheers and happy hosting, Fafnir_6 Edited December 4, 2021 by Fafnir_6 grammar and clarity

Each and every client will still need access to the Internet though, as you still need to login at game startup. So, a pure 'old-school LAN match' setup will not be sufficient... 1 1
