Normandy Map

Hi All, Thinking of getting the Normandy map and I know that it's early days yet before the full release and that there are a few allied and axis aircraft that I can fly but what about airfields, are they only confined to Normandy at the moment or are there airfields in southern England that I can take off from.

Cheers

I hope so, but the Battle of Normandy page references "the skies over the Normandy and Calais regions of France" and that "German-built and occupied airfields were captured, repaired and re-used by the Allies as they advanced," so it might just be France.

The planned map area has been shown, and England is very much on it. Someone else will likely be able to find the map quicker than me.

I don't know if there is any new maps available, but it seems that Amien will be on the final map, we can already found

the cathedral of Amien in the mission editor buildings.

That means that the map is extended to the east  of Flexicourt

Cathedral of Amiens is included with the Flying Circus "Arras" map and has been in the game for a while. Amiens is not on the map shown above.

FYI, all four maps are available in the following folder in Mega:

https://mega.nz/folder/fNQijSDY#iHzOBrQs1qiKOMsDt8efIg

In the above on-line shared folder you'll find:

a) The "work in progress" version as it was in 2019 (2626 x 1720 px)

b) The "work in progress version" as it was in 2020 (1916 x 2149 px)

c) The 2022 full size final version of Normandy "pre-invasion" (16064 x 17902 px)

d) The 2022 full size final version of Normandy "post-invasion" (16064 x 17902 px)

Enjoy...

Thanks. It is interesting to see the dimension evolution and surface.

The first map was a 102'000 km2, the second at 110'000 km2, and the released one at 107'000 km2 basically between the two so all fine here.

Regarding the height and width there were changes and the second one was more rectangular, the released is squarer. Probably this allowed to eliminate part of Jersey island that was visible on the second version.

Unfortunately, most probably due to time and to avoid loading too much the map we can see that the cities of Farnborough, Croydon, Epsom, Woking and Camberley that were mentioned in the WIP second map, just disappeared and were not implemented, and for someone flying there is just farmland and fields.

In my humble opinion, it mostly allowed to present a bigger portion of the Normandy region in France, which is the title region if you think about it. More Normandy countryside this means more relevance with the title and more available territory for the progressive advance of the Allies.

I'm not sure, but I think that the increase of the number of modelled cities this affects the quality of the multiplayer mode. It may even affect the game in single player mode when compared to the average rig. At release of "Rise of Flight" in 2009, Paris was nothing but an empty field. And still is, in fact, but "Rise of Flight", even if still supported by its rights holder, is no longer developed (a few modders do something though). Others will tell what they thhink, but in my opinion, at this point we likely have the best Normandy map that is allowed by both technology and the average rig.

this map has stutters over cities like Rhineland, the optimization context does not change!
in comparison, the DCS one (map channel) is very smooth and fluid!
at the price of this map and the others, the least we can do is to make a fluid game!
and no setting fixes this problem, small or big configuration.
I wonder if they test the game before selling it.....

I flew over le Havre in a beachhead patrol AQMB mission and got a worst fps of 105 and average 120. No stutter at all.

All graphic parameters to the max, unlimited distance, distant buildings etc. MSAA antialiasing X4, full 4K. It was perfectly fluid, during rolls and barrel rolls over the city at 500mt so that you had the whole city in the window, low passes, high passes, absolutely no issue. Running with a 11900K CPU with a 3090 GPU.

The Normandy map sounds good here.
