  1. 1. What tank do you want available for the Allies on Western front scenarios when the Churchill will be released ?

    • Realistic: only M4A2 and Churchill for the Allies
      42
    • Keep also the russian tanks for the allies in order to have more choice

looks like people are confident that the Churchill will be a good match for the axis heavies. When I tried M4A2 only on my server, for Western front missions, people would just drop

Do you see now how ochlocracy (which most of people call by mistake "democracy") works?)

CountZero, what Allied tank from this time period would you have rather seen in game in place of the Churchill?

You have been ragging on the Churchill since it was announced, but you have yet to make a constructive argument for another tank that would have been better.

So, what it is?  Do remember that the T34/85 is not a choice as it is not from this time period.

Well?

How about an GMC M10 instead of Churchill? Unless, of course, you do not get attached to the map of Prokhorovka.

  • M10 production began in September 1942.
  • She fought in all known theaters of military operations.
  • Delivered to the USSR under Lend-Lease.
  • Had a powerful 76 mm cannon.

It is for the format of collectible vehicles that the M10 - Stug pair would be optimal, IMHO

Interesting, but a swing and a miss.

The Dev Team only choses vehicles that are related to the title in question, in this case Prokhorvka, and no M10s were present. The only other US armor there were the cool looking yet utterly lackluster M3 Grant, and the actually very good M3 Stuart.  I don't think either of those would satisfy the multiplayer crowd's desire to have balanced, rather than historical, vehicle sets.

If matching the StuG was the parameter, then the SU 76 would have been the choice.

BlitzPig_EL is correct. As much as it kills me, and I mean kills me, the title is “IL2 Tank Crew - Clash at Prokhorovka”.  Any discussion of “allied” vehicles being included beyond those documented in Lend-Lease Programs of the time, is an exercise in futility by every one of us.  I hate it that it’s that way, but it not going to change until 1C/777 creates/releases a “IL2 Tank Crew - Western Front” module.  Time to face facts!

I think that's an M36 Jackson ?  But yeah I'd hoped we might get the M10 to go with Normandy

Churchill and Sherman versus what ?

German heavies ?

The M10 and M36 had thin armour protection. I can already hear the complaints about lopsided missions . In real life they were used in ambush or concealed situations because they were vulnerable even to 50mm KwK 39 gun of the Puma. Better have the M4A3 and the Firefly . The Churchill Mk VII and Cromwell model 1944 for the British side as well.

But the German side would have the Panther Ausf. G and the Panzer VI Ausf. B ( Koenigstiger), the Jagdpanther, the Jagdpanzer IV L48 and Panzer IV Ausf. H and J( already in game) plus the Stug III G (already present) and StuH 42. The Tiger Ausf. E ( late Tiger I variant with smaller commander cupola) as well. Some models already present like the Panther D , Tiger H, Churchill, Sherman 1942 model, Jagdpanzer IV L70 can be easily modified to reflect different or late variants. In order to better balance the games in MP servers could have uneven teams. says 2 Allies tank for each German. So whoever wants to play a German heavy has to accept that the opposing team will have twice as many players.

Historically speaking, not one single US Armored Commander in the field used the TD as it was designed and trained for…..to them, it was just another armored fighting vehicle. Sherman Stuart, Priest, Jackson, Chafee…. It didn’t matter….. a tank was a tank.

I know. And this is what players will do with them. Used them like tanks and then complain because they are getting killed by the first shot hitting them. If these vehciles are modelled accurately they won't be very popular with players once they realise how little armour protection they have..

S!,

Bring on M10/36. At least we can use the HE shell on something other than static objects to get a kill.  That open top will make for some fun for the AAA trucks and MG position in tanks :)

Yes I know but I simply mentioned Panzer VI Ausf. B ( Sd.Kfz. 182) many players might not know what I am referring to. And in German  Koenigstiger refers to the Bengal tiger of south east Asia which has never been called King tiger but the Allies just translated the name literally from the German and that's how they referred to the Panzer VI Ausf. B. It's like the Brits calling their versions of US tanks Grant , Stuart or Honey which became household names and even the Americans used or adopted the names informally.

Re Tiger E gunsight correct! Also it was monocular rather than binocular as on the earlier version.

Sherman Vc MA4A Firefly

The only allied tank that could penetrate the Tigers armour in Normandy.

At the Falaise Gap a 17lb claimed a Tiger - I have a screenshot of the 21st CDN armoured/GGFG war diary that notes it.

It would be a fun variation  from the 75 mm Sherman already in the game.

An expedited  British kitbash adaptation to deal with the Tiger-Panther threat.

How it varied from the standard Sherman:

-bow gunner removed for extra Ammo

-had to stop to shoot

-had good fine aiming movement but not a good traverse.

-literally rocked on its heels when it fired.

My grandad is the loader on the ground in the picture. Taken near the Hochwald Gap in March 1945 in the Battle of the Rhineland.

there’s lots of information on the vehicle for modelling  too:
