Even if the game has old graphics but damn…!!! It has like every imaginable aircraft including the Horten Ho 229! Isn’t really possible even with lower resolution import those to the Great Battles series compatibility? I think it would be really a revolutionary thing.

  • TheIL-2Thunder changed the title to Importing IL-2 1946 to Great Battles series.

I think it doesn't work because of the engine and various computer technologies / software etc ....... yes, it would be great, because there are many more theaters of war, airplanes .... even the radio menu was better then than it is today in BOX ........ but you can not have it all. I also wrestled with myself from time to time, but in the end I decided on BOX, FC and now and then ROF, because there is more for WWI.

No, just no.  As much as I miss my Hawk 81 and Ki61 and H8K, I could never go back.

Never.

Yes, it isn't just graphics - there is a lot of depth to the damage models, physics models, flight models... so everything would have to be remade from scratch.

The Go-229 was what got me into flight simulators... and I'm curious what the flight model would handle like in a modern sim... but I'm also very curious how a He-162 (which was actually under mass production) would handle like in a modern sim... and the IAR-80/81 for that matter!

I have never yet put the old 1946 aside, I can play it as well as the GB series even if graphically they are much different, even if it was possible to integrate, which it is not, each iteration is better as stand alone enjoyed separately for what they each do well.;)

Maybe one day the GB series will contain as much interesting stuff as the old game, who knows what will happen going forward.

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

One of the reasons why I think the current iteration of the series is better than the previous generations is the consistency of quality.

It would be like importing Harold Lloyd to the Jackie Chan movies.

Using words like 'importing' in this context may make it seem simple, but it really isn't. Totally different game engines.

If 1946 had a solid VR mod (a bunch of other old games have perfectly functional VR mods, so I don't see why it isn't possible) I'd be playing it. If it wasn't for the fact that my current simrig isn't setup for 2d anymore, I'd definitely still be enjoying it.

simply "porting over" the whole game into Great Battles is almost certainly not feasible. Sometimes I dream about a 1946 Remaster (with improved graphics, textures ran through an AI upscaler, flight/damage/system modelling improvements, and VR), I know its a pipe dream at the end of the day.

Reinstall it, run the updates and try a few missions or QMB fights. I think it will surprise you.

Right now the number of maps and the escenarios is the part I miss the most. The rest I can live with.

IMHP there is an urgent need to find a third party to focus on maps, maps and more maps.
