Hoss Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Good article, when the fatigue and G's argument comes up again, we can reference this article again.
357th_KW Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 It’s important to note that a number of changes were made to elevator bob weights, elevators themselves and horizontal stabilizers on P-51s, mostly after WWII. Modern flying Mustangs are very different from war time examples in these factors as well as their Cg’s they operate at. Modern pilots get a different impression of the aircraft’s characteristics because they are basically flying a different airplane. North American, the USAAF and NACA studied this stuff pretty extensively at the time, and there is really good period test data. See this thread for a discussion of that stuff.
